Honest review

I will make this layman’s review short and straightforward, for what it’s worth for my fellow shooters and consumers:
1. Performance: 4/5 stars. No doubt it performs as promised. It would be good to have a volume control.
2. Ergonomics: 5/5 for the fit. 2/5 for the weight. Too heavy for my usage, especially if you’re doing more than 5 stages in a day.
3. Durability: 1/5 the end of the wire link inside the joint at the headband linking is supported by plastics. The plastics went cracking on my first year of occasional shooting. Glue fixed it. On the 2nd year, the other broker and no amount of gluing would fix it.
Overall: For it’s hefty price, This design flaw should not happen, especially when you have driven 5 hours to attend a comp. The good old Peltor I used 15 years ago is a lot more reliable. I am giving it 2/5 stars for lack of reliability.

Terrible design/ follow up

I liked this electronic hearing protection unit right up until the moment it broke. They broke in exactly the same place many of the other reviewers have reported problems. The wire mount for the ear cup puts enough pressure on the plastic connecting piece to the head band that a tab breaks and the cup no longer seals against the side of your head. This is a very poor design.

Broke in same spot as other reviews reported!

Bought the Tactical Sport 500 to replace another set of Peltors (Sport 100) that broke in the same spot on the headband that many others have reported, thinking that the more expensive model would have solved this problem. I love the noise reduction, love the comfort, love the ability to communicate clearly with my students while wearing them, and wear them several days a week for much of the day in my profession as a firearms instructor. However, they broke in exactly the same place again! The plastic piece that connects the headband to the ear cup failed and the cup no longer seals. So now they're useless. And I haven't even had them that long. Come on, Peltor, listen to your customers and fix this!

Designed to fail

The Good:
The sound suppression, Bluetooth, etc work well. Good battery life, voice notifications on status changes (on, off, Bluetooth connect, low battery.)
The Meh:
Comfort needs improvement. Spring for the HY80 Peltor Camelback Gel Sealing Rings. Don't even try the original ones. Note that even these take some custom fit work. The headband will wear you out. Get a headband cover.
The Bad:
They're fine for occasional use, but a couple times a week (for 18 months for me), they're gonna break.
In the attached photo The Cap holds the wire frame to the headband. The frame pushes up on the bottom and pushes down on a plastic tab in the cap. This keeps the ear cup from swinging all the way out and allows the headband to press the ear cup to your head. Eventually, that plastic tab will will bust out. The wire frame will then push on the underlying headband base. This force now will split the cap off the base, breaking two tabs on the base under that cap. (These tabs are not structural but provided dampening on the ear cup movement.) The ear cup will then swing all the way out and compromise the seal.
Enough epoxy and they can be saved. It's just more time and effort into making, and keeping, these useful.

Poor Headband and Earmuff Mount Design
on March 28, 2019

I bought this product 2/21/18. I wear these daily in an Fabrication Facility. I was really dissatisfied with the comfort of the Headband and ear cups. Ordered aftermarket products to subdue these issues. In November after wearing these for 40+ hours a week the mounts for the Ear Muffs failed. And have gotten progressively worse over time. Now they are to the point where it doesn't hold pressure on to your head. I wish you had replacement parts available for the ear muffs mounts

Comfortable seal

I have enjoyed two years of use with the 500 headset. I use it only for shooting, and it stays in my range bag. So, use is not frequent, but steady. It took me a while to understand that Bluetooth volume is controlled by the media device, and headset volume by the controls on the headset. These are independent for good reason. You can adjust ambient noise level, and keep your Bluetooth device at a volume that doesn't interfere.
The best feature is the seal of the ear cups. They are comfortable and seal very tightly. Even with shooting glasses, I hear very little noise coming through the seals. They are conformal and soft and very, very comfortable.
This is what mystifies me the most, though: With so much comfort on the ear seals, the headband is horribly uncomfortable. Unless you're donning a hat at the range, the hard rubber head band really digs into the scalp. Sadly, there aren't many aftermarket accessories to remedy this.
All in all, these are the best headsets I've used in 30 years as a shooter for my job, for sport, and for competition. I love them.

Great features but bad quality!

I used these headphones for less than a year every day at the shooting range. So far, they have been doing great, unfortunately, after about 11 months of use, the headband holding the headphones on the head broke. I understand that these are not headphones from the Work Style series, but I respected them so far and I was careful during use, and despite everything they broke ...
This is a very poor recommendation for such a well-known company. I do not recommend these headphones, unless you go out to the shooting range at most once a month, then maybe they will last you longer, but remember to be very careful with them, because they are very delicate and fall apart on their own.
Apart from that, everything worked as it should, and until my headband broke, I was generally satisfied, although the sound quality could have been better.
Do not buy! There are better products!
