the perfect small space, double duty, baby whisper

Living in a city row home, finding certain baby items that fit your home can be a challenge. There are so many large items for such a small space! For our first, we bought a swing that was great but took up half our living room. We also had a bouncer that basically lived on our dining room table. Not ideal.
Enter the Graco Duet Sway lx. This sweet little baby minder does double duty as a bouncer....and a swing! Beautifully detailed and designed, the bouncer can easily be moved around with its easy to grasp handles and fits right into the swing to seamlessly keep a sleeping baby happily moving. The bouncer can be placed in the swing facing left, right or forward so wherever you are, you get full view of your placid kiddo. And the swing itself has such a small footprint! I couldn't believe how much of our living room we were able to reclaim.
Getting down to the nitty gritty, the bouncer can be adjusted to six different recline positions and has an adjustable toy bar (with adorable plush figures) which can be lowered for younger babes and raised as they get older. As a swing, it's super quiet and the dial can easily be adjusted for speed.

Soothing swing, medium effectiveness

We have tried three of these types of devices so far...this one isn't the best but it isn't the worst either. My favorite feature of the duet swing is the fact that the swinging motion is automatic so baby doesn't have to do anything to make it move - our son found the swinging motion of the duet to be more soothing than other products automatic rocking motions. I also very much appreciated that I could remove the rocker on the duet easily and carry baby from room to room, this makes it easy for me to keep an eye on my son while I move around the house, I don't like being stuck in one room so being able to move the device easily (particularly if he is sleeping it in) is key. Some of the cons of the swing is that it is not easy to travel with because it doesn't fold flat and it also isn't very attractive to look at from a design perspective. Ultimately it is not my first choice for this type of device my baby didn't like it the best, it wasn't the easiest set up, and isn't the best looking device but this swing was a nice 2nd option to have during particularly fussy times. We are lucky that our baby has a great temperament and typically doesn't need a lot of help to fall asleep - I could see this product being perfect for a baby who insists on constant motion to fall asleep. Fantastic swing!

What a fabulous swing! My son absolutely loves it. The swinging motion puts him to sleep very quickly (yay!) and the seat vibration and music are huge pluses to keep him dozing. The variable swing speeds are a great feature and let you choose exactly what speed you want and are easily adjustable. I usually have the seat in high vibration but there are two vibration strengths as well.
The coolest feature, though, is being able to also made this a bouncer! And it is as simple as lifting the seat off the swing mechanism! While the seat is on the swing it is firmly in place and I have no concerns about my toddler lifting it off. And then when in bouncer mode my son can happily bounce; the best of both worlds!
My only less than perfect comments are the toy bar is really easy to remove and my toddler yanks it off, and the hanging toys are only secured with tiny pieces of Velcro so they are very easily pulled off. There was also a lot more assembly than I would have anticipated but once it was all together it was well worth the effort!

Great Multi-Purpose Swing and Bouncer

Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel I got to try out this great bouncer for free. Overall I really like this product. I'm a mom of 4 month old, twin girls so I'm always looking for ways to keep them entertained, especially while I'm feeding one baby and the other baby has to wait. The Graco Portable Bouncer acts like a second set of hands for me! I love that you're truly getting two products in one. I can mount the bouncer onto the swing base to use it as a swing or I can take the bouncer off to let my girls bounce and entertain themselves with the mobile bar that has plush animals and stars that hang from it. The swing allows you to choose multiple speeds and you can also choose which direction you want your baby to swing- from side to side or front to back. That's great! The bouncer seat also has vibration and music features to soothe your baby, which are a plus. This bouncer was pretty easy to put together and I was able to complete the assembly while my girls were down for a nap.
This Graco Portable Bouncer is different than other baby swings I've encountered, so at first I was a little uneasy about just mounting the bouncer on the swing base and wondered if it was truly safe. After ensuring the bouncer was securely attached, I put one of my daughters snuggly in the harness and turned it on. It was actually really nice! One wonderful feature of the bouncer is that you can also set the recline to the position you need and I'd recommend reclining your baby to the furthest recline position you can while they are swinging just for extra piece of mind. My girls do suffer from mild reflux so the fact I can adjust the recline is awesome because having them on a incline, especially after they eat, is so helpful in preventing them from spitting up a ton.
The only reason I'm giving this portable bouncer a 4-star rating is because I thought the fastest swing speed was a little too fast and I'd be uncomfortable letting my baby swing at that speed. Thankfully you can choose whatever speed you like, so you can avoid that top setting if you'd like.

Love this swing!

I'm on baby #5 and this swing is brilliant! I adore that it's a small size and still swings both directions. The fact that it plugs into the wall is icing on the cake. I've loved the adjustable recline options. None of my babies have ever loved vibration, but it is nice to have the feature on this swing for those babies that do! We've only used the rocker feature a couple of times, so for us the primary use is as a swing. The whimsical print on the Marshall design is darling. I couldn't be more pleased with this swing. While I received this swing courtesy of the weeSpring Parent Panel, I would definitely consider purchasing this as a gift for someone expecting! I paid about 1.5 times the retail msrp of this swing for our old swing, and this one is miles ahead. I would definitely recommend this!

Great for small spaces, but could use improvement!

Our little one is now 5 months and I was very much looking forward to using this swing because of its dual-functional use and for the fact that it was compact and didn't take up much room like many other swings out in the market. It was very easy to put together and self explanatory to use. I also really liked the design and look of the swing. However, I felt there could have been some additional accessories or features that could be added to make this product a 5 star rating. For instance, there isn't any sound/music option, the only "entertainment" for the baby are the two rattles that you can hang, arching above the baby (and can adjust to varying angles). Perhaps a mirror or one more toy could be added as well, I felt our little one got bored very easily and tried squirming out rather quickly. Lastly, I'm not sure if the baby was too heavy (which I'm sure she wasn't), but if she put her weight more to one side, I felt the bassinet would tip over and fall off. At first it was a bit scary looking putting her in as well. I'm sure it is safe, but the tipping of the cradle didn't ease my mind enough to leave her alone unattended for more than a few seconds. I feel if some of these are addressed, it would be a huge improvement! Thanks to weeSpring Parent Panel for sending the Graco Duet Swing & Portable Rocker to try and review!

My new must have baby item!

We have been using swing/rocker for a few weeks with our second baby and I am sad we didn't have it with our first! We used a standard large swing and a separate rocker with our first. Normal swings are so bulky and I love that I can easily move this new one around the house and not be stuck only having her be in one room when she is using it. I have a busy 2 year old so it is definitely a must for a mom that needs her hands free! Makes my life so much easier without having to sacrifice everything I loved about a traditional swing. She still takes marathon naps in this so it must be just as cozy! Both my family and my husbands family live an hour away and this has made visiting them so much easier. It is always hard to get our baby to nap anywhere but home but this has saved us since it is lightweight and we can easily bring it with us! With our first we always dreaded overnight visits because we would end up with an overtired cranky baby. We also use the rocker feature a lot when baby wants to hang out and watch her big bro run around or me make dinner. It plugs in, which is a must when I look for baby gear. Never want things that use up batteries like crazy! Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for providing me with this swing and rocker! It is my new favorite baby item that I can't stop recommending to all my friends!

Has potential

Received this product free from an online parent panel in exchange for a review. I love the small size and footprint. It takes up less room than my other swings. I like the plushness and colors and patterns. I like the easy to turn speed dial. My old swings have buttons for speed up and down. I prefer this so I can know exactly what setting it's on and not guesstimate it's roughly 3/8 of the line's worth of speed. Tough to measure that. My old swings also had mirrors to stare at. And music and sounds. And with traditional swings, you just push a button and rotate the direction of the swinging. There's no heavy lifting, no realigning the pieces back into each other and checking to make sure they're secure. The toy bar on this Graco swing is flimsy. It doesn't snap into the seat frame bars as tight as I'd like and it's already slid forward and fallen several times. When used swinging in a vertical manner, this swing makes me nervous. Even after setting the seat to lean back as far as it'll go, I feel as though I HAVE to buckle her in for safety. Even after all this, of this was the only swing I'd ever owned, I would be happy with it because I wouldn't have anything to compare it to. I'd use it happily and appreciate it. My kid would be comfortable and safe. I'd still recommend it if you've got the $ to spend.
