Nighthawk not compatible

The C6300 seems to be working fine but when I tried to used Nighthawk app when adding an extender, the Nighthawk said the firmware was out of date. However, the literature says the firmware is automatically update. The Nighthawk did not allow me to continue so I manually installed. Nighthawk was useless.
