I'm drinking water again... the ease of use and taste of the water has me drinking more water than I have in years... not to mention the savings on bottled water... love it!!
Easy install, however a better adapter to shim out the standard hole drill size in the counter-top would be nice. Maybe a plug that not only centers the faucet but shims out the space within the counter-top itself so internal caulking or putty can be used. I had my Granite installed just days before, and I wish I had waited to drill the hole with the smaller size of the new design tap. My son has an older unit and it has a much larger install hole size. Otherwise a great product so far.
Hardware and installation of Aquasana is measured against a 2 year old unit readily available at home improvement shops, but which I couldn't get filters for. The Aquasana is replacing that unit. I use this in the breakroom/kitchen at a commercial shared office space with about 6 - 10 people a day working here. Tap water has a definite chlorine smell and taste, so drinking water, tea and coffee are all made with filtered water. Only two negatives, so I'll do those first: Installation isn't complicated, but the two issues below are what make it difficult. Tubing provided is too short. It's fine if you are mounting the filters and faucet on the right side of the sink cabinet, next to the cold water line. If you have the filters on the right and the faucet on the left, you're in trouble and will have to go visit a hardware store. The faucet uses the same size and type of tubing as a refrigerator ice maker, so it's not tough to find. If both pieces of tubing were twice as long, that would cover 90% of any mounting placement. The faucet itself I prefer to the other manufacturer's plastic ones with the battery and blinking light in the base. The Aquasana is metal and feels more solid. The mounting hardware is the weak point though. The trim plate barely covers the existing hole. The thin rubber gasket doesn't hold its shape on its own, so it flops down into the mounting hole and doesn't serve to seal the faucet trim to the counter. In hindsight, cutting a styrofoam plug the thickness of the counter to fill the hole would have saved me a lot of swearing. A thicker or larger diameter gasket would be a big improvement. The ideal would be a molded gasket that had a centering rim, much like the bottom mounting plate. Centering the faucet, trim, gasket and bottom plate while trying to tighten the securing nut is definitely not a one-man job. Once it's installed, it's a nice unit. Water flow is about the same rate as the unit it replaced. Neither unit flowed as quickly as a reverse osmosis system, but that's not a fault of the system. Some real pluses: Filter unit is much smaller that my previous one - takes up less room under the sink. Filter replacement is just that - the filters; I don't have to trash 3 plastic housings twice a year too. Filter cost, as well as the replacement filter subscription, make things easier. I don't have to anticipate an upcoming filter replacement and make sure I have filters ordered or have extras stored. Battery replacement doesn't require tools. The tab in the filter unit is a convenient design. No complaints from the people using the kitchen. We have a few coffee snobs, so I know they're all happy with the water quality.
We have had the unit for about a month. I found the installation to be straight forward and the product does as advertised. The only reason I have not rewarded it with 5 stars is I am concerned about the low quality push in connections between the lines and the unit itself. I would have preferred a threaded connection. If these ever leak or drip there is no way to repair them.
i have city water in chattanooga so i dont know what the content is. i love my aquasana because i can taste the freshness. water is pure and clean. i didnt install it but it think it was fairly easy for someone who does plumbing. water faucet pours a little slow but this is characteristic of most water filters. wish it had come with a water tester so that i know the content of the water. i believe it has an alarm that will let me know when the filter needs changing. will review when i see the length of time the cartridges last.
