I had my water tested before we bought an Aquasana under the sink filter - the lead level was below the action limit and could be dealt with by running the cold water for a minute before use. I wanted more protection for my family, but can't afford to have my 1957 house entirely re-plumbed. The lead is not coming from my municipal water supply, but from the solder used on the water pipes being dissolved into the water sitting in the pipes. Aquasana filters take the lead out along with all the other harmful compounds. The filters leave calcium and magnesium. Now I don't worry about the water we drink and cook with. Our water would be costly to buy at the store: high magnesium and calcium, pH 8.2.
