We have this unit at our second home. We wanted style, space and efficiency. This unit is quiet and well lit. The ice maker works quickly but needs a taller bin since the ice cubes fall into the freezer when scooping them out.
This was purchased to replace the 14 year old Viking. It was purchased because of the size: my husband didn’t want to do any kitchen renovations in order to replace the Viking (which cane w/our house & has been a disaster since we bought the house.)
It’s clear this size & style was created by GE to tend to the market of folks w/ desires for the “commercial sized” refrigerators.
The price point appealed to my husband. So thumbs up on the shell & size. From there- not so impressed.
You get what you pay for. The ice maker is located at the very top inside the freezer. In order for shorter statured folks to get Inside the collection bin to retrieve Ice- a step stool is needed. Meanwhile the freezer door is gaping open. The design & placement of shelving inside the door & the freezer itself is poor & of poor quality materials. The same for inside of the fridge. Because there are 3 drawers (two larger & one smaller), you have less shelving space. Poor quality shelves & drawers- easy to crack & difficult to maneuver drawers efficiently.
I never determined based on reading the owners manual if it’s dual compressor or not. Any appliance this size needs to have 2 compressors so the freezer is not the workhorse for the entire cubic footage.
Ice maker is noisy; it does not stop making ice when the bin is full, so I’m finding ice cubes all over the place; I despise the location of it- retrieving ice rebders Ice all over the freezer & your floor. We have to manually shut it off daily to keep it from overflowing.
I do not like the easily smudged stainless steel. When you have something this large, you better keep It spotless because it naturally becomes a focal point.
Overall- it keeps food at adequate temperatures. But the inside design and quality is poor.
I wish the engineers would consult with women who use their kitchens regularly when designing appliances. But...you get what you pay for. Especially when your husband chooses the appliances based on price point.
There’s a reason why builders love GE & why discerning customers don’t.
Elegant, Functional, and Exceptional value for adding to our new kitchen. We've used several products from other vendors as part of a home purchase and replaced with GE products when they break - this product was part of a new kitchen remodel and it looks and works great!
Purchased this refrigerator for new construction home. The interior has several flaws. The bottom drawer will not open without hitting the door, even when the door is all the way open. Ice maker access is horrible. Door shelve adjustment is limited so some tall items can't fit there. Door top shelf is almost useless. Outside is cool but interior needs a lot of work. I wish I could have used this product for a while before buying it, because I would have selected a different brand.
We are very happy with the refrigerator. We really like the lighting and the vegetable and meat drawers. Overall it is well engineered but the ice maker keeps overflowing with ice and not activating the automatic shut off arm.
