work great but chemical smell

2 1/2 stars - they have a chemical smell i don't like and i wonder if the chemicals can possibly be good for me, if they smell so bad. so i only run my air purifier when the air quality is particularly bad, especially smoky. they're very effective for the smoke! but i run them so rarely, i leave them unplugged most of the time. since i don't run them constantly (one on each floor) i'm in a quandary about the every 6 month subscription - as the boxes are stacking up.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We understand your concern about the chemical smell, and we want to assure you that this can occasionally happen when a filter is first removed from its packaging. The odor is temporary and should dissipate within a few days. We’re glad to hear that the purifier has been very effective during smoky conditions, though we understand the challenge of managing unused filters with your current subscription. Could be cheaper

I’m not sure if it works any better than other brands that fit (about half the price). I like the 500 series air cleaner better than other brands but the filters don’t last more than 3 months in my house with 4 dogs which makes it quite expensive. The carbon filter is a must in my house.
