Honeywell Home Support: Thank you for contacting Honeywell Home Technical Support. My name is XXXXXX. How can I assist you today? 9:50:30 AM Me: Need help with connecting T9 thermostat. First issue I live in a town house. Don't have access to the air-conditioned due to its located on the roof. So everything about change G wire to blue wire or use the adapter kit to connect inside the air-conditioner panel will not work. So purchased a 24 volt power supply to hook up between the C wire and the RC line. The thermostat came up said it was happy. Set all the setting adjusted temperature down to 60 degrees and the air conditioner still did not operate. I only have air-conditioner, no heater or other devices. Please help. 9:57:01 AM Honeywell Home Support: Hi I will be happy to assist you!!, Before to proceed could you please provide me with your full name and your email in order to create a case? 9:57:27 AM Me: 9:58:11 AM Honeywell Home Support: Thank you, Douglas, also, could you please provide me with the full model number on the new thermostat and the old thermostat wiring? (Colors and terminals used) 9:59:59 AM Me: Green, Red, Yellow, white T9 with remote room 10:03:44 AM Honeywell Home Support: Wiring G, R, Y and W? 10:04:17 AM Honeywell Home Support: Correct? 10:04:26 AM Me: And 24 volt supplied to C wire and RC 10:04:54 AM Me: Correct 10:05:08 AM Honeywell Home Support: So you have R and RC wires, correct? 10:06:01 AM Me: Original, I have R wire. When connecting the 24 volt power for C wire it is connected between C and RC.t 10:07:42 AM Honeywell Home Support: The issue is that the installation of a transformer is not compatible with your system, by installing it, the transformer energizes the thermostat but is not controlling anything, the R and wire (power) and the C wire (return the power to the system to close the circuit) should came from the air handler panel that the rest of the wires came from 10:09:30 AM Honeywell Home Support: Is your furnace gas, oil or electric? 10:10:30 AM Me: There is no furnace. Air condition only. and Electric. I miss spoke only have three wires. Red to R, White to Y, Green to G. And then added transformer from C and R/C. 10:14:41 AM Honeywell Home Support: So do you have an only cooling system, correct? 10:18:36 AM Me: Yes, only cooling system. 10:18:59 AM Honeywell Home Support: The 24 volts external transformer is only compatible with only heating systems, it will be necessary to run a new C wire or install a Wire Saver Adapter> There is an option that I honestly wouldn't recommend, the TH8732WF, this product has a lithium battery which means that can be installed with no C wire, but the issue is that the battery is only for backup, you will be able to install it and maybe to connect it to the WiFi, but because the battery is only for backup the connection will be constantly failing and the battery will die after a year damaging the WiFi card, because at the end all the WiFi thermostats requires a C wire 10:24:49 AM Me: Here the issue that is very confusing with what you are saying. The C wire is just for the WiFi, the other 3 wires is just for the Thermostat. When I purchase just the standard programmable HP unit that requires three wires and Batteries just to operate display it works great. So what you ae saying because I bought the best unit you have I need to run wire?? 10:29:31 AM Me: It even says C wire is for WiFi 10:30:14 AM Honeywell Home Support: The C wire is not only for the WiFi, it is to close the circuit and energize the thermostat, the WiFi connection requires a lot of energy so a battery is not enough 10:34:02 AM Honeywell Home Support: And by connection the transformer on RC and C you are closing that circuit with RC and C, the circuit that involves the cooling system is not even involve in the other circuit 10:35:08 AM Me: So is there away to jumper this? 10:35:38 AM Honeywell Home Support: So the 24 volts external transformer is not compatible with cooling system, is only for system with heat only 10:35:51 AM Me: Ok, then why does the NEST work? 10:36:20 AM Honeywell Home Support: I don't have information about NEST products, I apologize 10:37:22 AM Me: I believe the issue is when you hook up RC then you are forced to slide the selector switch to the unit to down. Which changes the operation all together. I know on the other HP units you leave it up and ever thing works. You slide it down and it does not. 10:41:26 AM Honeywell Home Support: RC and C = one circuit, R, Y, G = another circuit. In order to work, all the wiring should came from the same air handler panel 10:41:57 AM Honeywell Home Support: For the system you have there is only 2 options, - Run new C wire from the air handler panel to the thermostat. - Install a Wire Saver Adapter 10:43:12 AM Honeywell Home Support: Other type of installation may cause a damage on the system and we do not recommend it 10:43:36 AM Honeywell Home Support: I apologize for all the inconveniences this is causing to you 10:44:21 AM Me: How do you install a wire saver with out changing wiring on the unit, can you do this from the Thermostat side only? 10:45:06 AM Me: I don't care if I have it on the wall. 10:45:30 AM Honeywell Home Support: Is not possible, I apologize for all the inconveniences this is causing to you 10:45:32 AM Me: It says you are still typing are you still there? 10:54:19 AM Honeywell Home Support: Yes, I'm here 10:54:30 AM Me: Ok, so there is no way to get this to work? Without going out to the system and rewiring unit. 10:55:33 AM Honeywell Home Support: Unfortunately no, the option will be the TH8732WF, but with all the issues I already described 10:56:39 AM Me: OK! PLEASE change your statement that you require a wire to run from unit to C wirer or a converter to be put on unit. Then I would not have purchased it. Just saying you require no C wire and you supply a adapter is very miss leading. 10:57:20 AM Honeywell Home Support: I apologize Douglas, but the thermostat requires that the C and the R wires came from the same air handler panel, I cannot change this , this is beyond my capacities, you should contact a professional and verify the options you have 10:59:26 AM Me: Thank, will do, Thank you for you support
The app is not good. It keeps logging me out saying “too many attempts”. I turned off geofencing. I ended up Turing off the location functionality (the only reason I bought it), because it was never working. Very frustrating. This is not user error, either.
I bought these to replace my Nest 3rd Gen Thermostats. I had 2, one on the first floor and one on the second. I had several reasons for wanting to change. The main being with Google and privacy and their ability to phase out products rapidly. Secondly, the temperature schedule would never hold where we wanted it to in our home. It would always revert to a learning pattern, although we set a schedule to be overridden and it just didn't work. Lastly, the temperature swing on the next is about 2-3 degrees off before it will kick on in most cases. The Honeywell's however have by far exceeded my expectation. They seem to work better with my system. The house stays at a comfortable temp and it's just easier to use than the Nest but with all the remote access options you need, so my wife and I can set in bed and have thermostat wars on what it should be set to. Over all I think this is a great product, works very well and would recommend to anyone looking for a good smart thermostat from a brand that is trusted and been in the HVAC industry for a very long time.
Replaced a T6 with a T9 in order to gain ability to use remote sensors. Easy to install since it uses the same mounting bracket. Ability to focus on specific sensors is great. Although the sensors themselves seem to read differently than other thermostats in the same spots. Really miss the Homekit integration. I now have 5 T6s that can work with Homekit and 1 T9 that can't. Other than that, no complaints.

Very unhappy with device. It never worked properly according to the temp I set. I could set it to turn ac on at 80 degrees. It would either cool the house down to 70 or not turn on until temp in house was 85 .I tried resetting several times and it still did not work as expected. I’m going back to a device that’s “Old School “.
