Compressor runs a lot & with a high pitched hum

This sound is so annoying, and I guess it will never go away. I don't understand how GE thought this acceptable. Otherwise, it is a nice refrigerator.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Newer model refrigerators can be a bit louder than older models that you may be used to; this is because of newer technology and added features. The high efficiency compressor may run faster and longer, with the accompanying humming sound. Your manual does discuss what sounds are normal for your model on page 33. We do still strive to provide as quiet and peaceful an experience as possible in spite of noise level changes, and our Design team will be informed of the concern you have. I had been dying to get a side-by-side fridge since I moved into my house. I love having so many shelves to keep all my food easy to find, without having to dig through a freezer to find what I'm looking for.

My only criticism is the need to purchase GE WXFE water filters instead of the less expensive WXF filters which is available from non GE suppliers.
