Aluminum Stained After First Use

I followed the pre-first use directions and cleaned the inside well. I then brewed 15 cups of coffee, which is the minimum and when it was done, the entire inner sides of the urn above the 15 cup line was stained as if the aluminum finish has been stripped. Cleaning did not restore the finish. What gives?
