I received the Philipps Advanced Wet and Dry Epilator to review and have tried for 3 weeks now. I have been using an old epilator (with metal grips – like tiny tweezers) for at least 12 years and I was in the market for a new one when I received this opportunity.
The good parts:
It’s got a nice sleek design, very feminine. The handle is easy to hold. Light is a plus. Easy to see what you’re doing. Being waterproof and cordless are nice features to have. The trimmer attachment works well in the shower. I have not used any trimmer like this and I am quite happy with it. I felt safe using the trimmer, not scared of hurting myself trimming bikini area like when using a razor. Easy to clean too, just put under running water and turn on. There’s cleaning brush, but I haven’t used it. The battery is long lasing. I have used it about 5 times before I need to charge it. It’s also way more quiet. I have let my leg hair grow a bit in anticipation of testing this product. It doesn’t hurt as much when pulling longer hair compared to using my old epilator.
The not so good parts:
The epilator does not work well enough. Box says epilator picks up fine hairs. Maybe it does in theory, but the unit I got did not. It was good in picking up long, coarse hair. The epilator missed a lot of hair the first few passes, it takes several more passes (and going at different directions: up, down, diagonal) before it gets picked up. Frustrating really. Once, I reverted to my old epilator to get the job done. There’s some hair that will be left so I used regular shaver for nice smooth skin.
Overall, it’s a good trimmer but the epilator needs a little bit of improvement. Looks like I will be using this combined with the old one for a smoother feel.
Pros: waterproof cordless long lasting battery

Not satisfied with pain to result ratio

Using this takes so long, you have to go over the same spot multiple times. Would be better worth time just to wax. Tried wet and dry and then with baby powder as per suggestions and nothing made the product work any better
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

a HUGE disappointment
I bought a Phillips Satinelle epilator 25 years ago (yep, you read that right! 1/4 century ago) and it stopped working recently. How I wished I would have tried to get it repaired instead of buying the current version. Just like baseball, I have a 3-strike rule and I tried diligently, using various speeds, to like this thing, which as you know is highly rated. To put it simply, it just didn't work. There were points at which I would have to go over and over one leg hair to try and get it to catch and it wouldn't. I recognize fully I am in the minority and perhaps it's in large part due to the fact that I used my other one faithfully for many years and it never let me down. Not sure, but this thing went back. Very disappointing. How I wish I would have hung onto the old one and tried to get it fixed!

Works better than I imagined

I bought this in hopes of not having to shave as often. I have tried it on my legs, arms, underarms, and face. It hurt really bad on my underarms, because that's a sensitive area. But the results cannot be denied! I used the epilator, and have not had to shave in over two weeks! I am not quite brave enough yet to try my bikini area. I am sharing this review as part of the Holiday Sweepstakes.
I returned the Philips epilator because it was not effective at removing hair. I had been using a Braun epilator for at least 7 years, and had been satisfied with the ease of use, and effectiveness of the unit. I needed to replace the epilator head, so instead decided to get a new epilator. I purchased the Philips and was very surprised and disappointed that it was not effective at removing hair.

Hi, Thank you for writing your review, your opinion is highly valued. We're sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with the performance of your epilator. Although you were able to return your product, we'd still like to go ahead and offer some troubleshooting advice for future reference.
For your epilator to remove your hair properly, its important to hold it at the right angle. For your model, it is best to hold the epilator a bit tilted at a 75° angle. Additionally, move the epilating head slowly over the skin while epilating, to allow the discs to catch the hair. For the best result, move the appliance against the direction of hair growth, making sure the head is in full contact with the skin. If you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch via social media. We’re available 24/7 on Facebook and Twitter. Alternatively, you can reach out to us via the contact page on our website. One of our colleagues will then try their best to help you further. Hope to speak to you soon! Kind regards, Philips Consumer Care

Terrible

This is a waste of money. First of all, you have to go over the area at least three times to get anything close to all the hair out. And now, after a few months of regular use, the tweezers are constantly sticking. Every 30-60 seconds, the epilator starts making this awful noise because the mechanism is stuck and I have to force it to rotate in the proper direction.
And, for the short period of time it did function, the power button is located in a position that places it directly under your fingers, which means it inadvertently gets turned off.
Terrible product. I've gotten rid of it and am looking for something worth my money. Stay far away.

Do not reccomend product

I received this product for review for free. I did not like it at all. It is EXTREMELY painful for use. I shave with a razor, have done threading and waxing on similar body parts. While at times these were painful experiences this epilator was by far the worst. I do not have long hair or even a lot on my body so I was looking forward to this being an easier and hopefully pain free option. I used wet and dry with and with out shaving cream with multiple attempts. I really could not get past the pain. I do not know what to compare the product to as far as my previous options so I will not try. Bottom line, unless you have successful used a device such as this one I would not recommend the product.
