[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this ice maker to replace our old unit that last us 19 years. Love that it makes a lovely nice clear ice cubes for us. Everything is good about this unit. Only hope that one day they will make the one that is very quiet.

This replacement has a water filter!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this ice maker about a month ago to replace the kitchenaid maker we had under the counter. So far, it has done what we expect it to do...make ice. One feature this ice maker has that the kitchenaid did not have was a filter.
Only time will tell whether this machine holds up like its predecessor.

Watch out for moisture issues at drain and trap!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I installed this unit 2 weeks ago which replaced the 2005 version of this ice maker. This new model has a process cycle that separates the minerals from the water. It then goes through a "flushing" cycle that purges the minerals that were separated out. It dumps the water out so vigorously that it splashes water out if you have an air gap drainage system. It is just a few drops each cycle, but adds up with each new cycle. Another problem with this flushing process is that it is not directed through a tube. Instead it passes through the ice in the storage bin on the way to the drain hole at the bottom of the storage bin and chills the water. This chilled water sits in the trap and causes condensation issues. I have been struggling to solve these 2 major issues. I solved the splashing issue by adding a 3" to 2" reducer bushing to the 2" drain that had worked perfectly on my old unit for over 18 years. Still trying to sort out the condensation issue which I expect to get even worse this summer when it warms up and the humidity levels rise. I am lucky to have a basement and was able to see these moisture issues before I rotted out the hardwood flooring, sub-flooring, and floor joist. I recommend that the Whirlpool engineers add a 2nd drain tube for the water being discharged during the flushing cycle to keep it from passing directly through the ice which would reduce the degree of chilling to the water that sits in the trap between cycles.
