First of all, I love Melissa and Doug products -I always search for them first when buying for my granddaughters or as a gift for other children. They are so well made, safe, educational and durable. These puzzles are a perfect start for little ones to recognize pieces and for hand and eye coordination to place them properly- just enough pieces and not overwhelming - great product!

The size of the pieces and nobs are good. However material seems cheap as surface of pieces has started to peel away after only a few days. Toy also requires thorough cleaning before each use, as the cuts of the pieces leave lots of dust that a child who is teething or likes to chew on toys would ingest.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What a great first puzzle!! We gave it to our grandson when he was 16 months old and now, at 17 months he still loves it! I think it might hold his interest for another month. He still delights in putting the pieces (so easy to handle with knobs for tiny hands) into place. And, it's a great puzzle to hand down - quality product and lovely bright colors.
