Was moldy when opened

Melissa and Doug I ordered the diner online and opened it Christmas Eve once my girls were in bed. Immediately I noticed a strong mildew/mold smell that soon filled the room and I instantly reacted with a scratchy eyes, throat and nose that required an allergy pill. What were we supposed to do? Put it together or send it back? All other gifts were wrapped but this was the major gift they wanted, so I definitely didn't want it missing from the tree Christmas morning, so we put it together. After unloading all of the parts, I used a non abrasive cleaner to wipe them down with. I picked up the part with the stove knobs and it broke in two, having us contemplating moving forward once again, but again decided it was most important to have it in Christmas morning. I am uploading a few pictures showing the damage that we found on different parts. The unit still smells and at this point the toys that have been used on it these last few days will also need to be thrown away. It really sucks because we bought them toys to go with it, refrigerator food, diner condiment tray, pots, pans, plates, cups etc.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

endless amounts of fun

Easy to put together. My 5 yr old and 17 month old love playing in the Diner. My 12 yr niece just visited and played happily along and commented on how much fun they were having. My eldest would love to get the server outfit to go with the Diner....Can't wait

This product look like such a fun toy and Christmas gift for my sister and when it arrived it came in great condition until I started to build it and I was given two of the same piece. I was then unable to build any of the structure because of this mishap. Very disappointed and a little irked that this happened. Some holes not lining up perfectly is usually understandable, but missing a crucial piece in the assembly is unacceptable. So yes I would recommend this to someone else in hopes they don't run into this absurd problem as well.

This diner is everything it promises to be. Very sturdy and provides my 4 year old daughter endless hours of entertainment. Assembly took about an hour and directions were very easy to follow. Of course I ended buying another $250 of Melissa and Doug food sets to go with this so my daughter would have everything she needed. My only issue is this DOES NOT include the diner set so basically it comes with nothing to use and the set is self separately which was not stated. When i contacted Melissa and Doug to ask why it was not they advised me it was not included and out of stock to purchase. Since my daughter had a diner with a menu and nothing to make, I bough her food sets but am very disappointed it did not include any accessories.
I would recommend this to a friend!
