(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Does everything a washer should do. Except it had an error with some sort of filter, when the technician came to fix it. He couldn’t find anything in the filter and then it magically started working again. I used to have a washer for 15 years that never had any problems. Had this one for one year.

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Some background here: my spouse and I did not choose this washer. It was supplied as part of an appliance and fixture package in our new condo by the builder. We had no input into the type or brand of appliances or fixtures. The washer is part of a stacked pair [the companion dryer is a Whirlpool model YWED562OHW2).
We had viewed this washer (and its dryer companion) in the condo builder’s display suite, located in an adjacent building to the one we just moved into. It looked very good, controls and features were certainly acceptable (i.e. comparable but not as extensive to the life’s good stacked pair we had in our former house) and we were assured by the builder’s representative that this combination pair would be the same in our condo we were having built.
What we forgot was that the display suite was quite a bit bigger with a large (compared to ours) laundry/mechanical room. When we actually moved into our condo, we observed that the washer/dryer unit was tight to the wall, only 2 inches from the hot water tank, and the water supply and drain hoses unreachable should we need to turn them off or replace them (as Whirlpool recommends be done after five years use). Now, this is not necessarily the builder’s fault; its appliance supplier would have recommended the appropriate size units to fit these rooms throughout the condo complex. Nevertheless, we are concerned about the aforementioned maintenance and also the process to unstack and disconnect the washer and dryer should either require service. It is definitely not a do-it-yourself project.
Washer cycles. There is a very good, tabloid-size paper Quick Start Guide for reference. We use standard HE detergent and have the standard single-load dispenser. We do not use fabric softener. So far, we have found the cycle combinations to be adequate for our use, but the options in the ‘what to wash and how to wash’ selections are frustrating as many are set automatically and cannot be overridden. We do not know what ‘Sanitize with Oxi’ means; it is not documented. Our only issue with the washer’s operation occurred after two months use when the washer display flashed S5 and started chiming, much to my spouse’s concern. The washer reset itself but added additional time to the wash and rinse cycles automatically. We consulted the Owner’s Manual and could not find any reference to the code, in fact there was no troubleshooting section in the manual at all. My spouse went on the Whirlpool site and chatted with someone who sent her three PDF documents, one of which was in Spanish – are you kidding? They were absolutely of no use to us in deciphering the code and we then resorted to a Google search. The S5 code referred to one of three possible problems and we concluded that we had probably added too much HE soap to the wash load.
Washer care. We have cleaned the front seal and door surfaces after each use. In the ten weeks since moving into our condo, we have cleaned the machine twice using Affresh tabs (coincidentally the same tabs we used in our old washer). We also cleaned the dispensers at the same time. Everything was easy to do. What surprised us was that there is no provision to clean the drain pump (apparently this is offered on a different model). We did this on our previous washer and it proved to be very beneficial in keeping crud out of the pump filter within the washer.
Summary. This is a very competent and able washer and does the job for us.
