Defective washer
on February 17, 2023

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been a Kenmore & Kenmore Elite consumer for more than 40 years. We NEVER experienced defects or hiccups with any of our Kenmore products. Regrettably, we purchased brand new Whirlpool appliances through the builder and each product, washer, oven, dishwasher, and refrigerator have had issues. Several times during the wash cycle the machine paused and a code of "FL" would flash, then "LO," would flash. After contacting Whirlpool, we were told to reset the machine. We have not had the products for a month, and there are already issues. So disappointed!

Problem w/ spin cycle
on February 28, 2023
Posted by: Jon M.
from Los Angeles, CA
we purchased this washer last October 2022 and it's had problems w/ the spin ever since it was installed. If it spins up, which is not always, the entire house shakes. Otherwise it just starts to spin then slows and stops. Clothes are generally still soaking wet when the cycle is complete. Is this a common problem?

Bad design to access the filter
on January 8, 2024
Posted by: Diyer007
the manual asks regular cleaning the filter, but to clean the filter, the top panel, front panel and door seal, need to be removed. It's super bad design.

Good washer but no front accessible filter!
on February 18, 2024

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Basic washer works good. Problem is ours has a dryer stacked on top and there’s no front accessible filter clean out on the washer which is very poor design. Whirlpool cheaped out! One has to take the dryer off, pull out the washer, remove the rear cover and reach underneath to clean the filter. I would not recommend it his model unless you have clear unobstructed access to the rear of the machine.

Grows black mold inside the soap dispenser
on February 8, 2025

I ordered this washing machine together with a matching heat pump dryer, because we were building a new Passive house and we needed a heat pump dryer that doesn't have an outside vent. This washer grows black mold right inside the soap dispenser - in the softener and bleach compartments. I don't even use any of the dispenser compartments, because I use soap pods which I place directly inside the machine. I can only imagine what grows inside the machine! I had to use a painting brush to remove the black mold out of all the nooks and crannies of the dispenser. Also the fact that I have to hold the start button for 3 secs to start the machine is supper annoying. If you hold a second longer - the machine will never start. Who designed this equipment? Did you do any user testing on it? Did you ask any family members to use it? I have never owned a Whirlpool appliance and I will never buy another one. What a shame.

GARBAGE. Get literally any other model.

TERRIBLE DESIGN. your clothes will eventually start smelling like mildew and no matter how many times you use a cleaning tablet your clothes will still STINK. there’s no reasonable way to clean any filters or anything that could be causing this issue without taking the machine out and unscrewing panels and trying to squeeze your way into the machine. Unlike other models where they put a drawer to access the filter you need to be a licensed plumber to deep clean this atrocity. Whatever engineer designed this hunk of junk needs to be fired immediately.

fantastic, your clothes will never be clean again
on March 3, 2025

After 4 years, I regret every moment I've had to use this washer & dryer.
do. not. buy.
so long as all you ever need to wash are perfectly clean standard test fabrics used in a laboratory testing facility, you're golden, this is the machine for you!
if you are in fact a human being with actual laundry ranging in sizes from tiny baby socks to massive king size 1500 thread count cotton sheets and multiple large dogs... stay away. stay far far away. you will never have clean clothes again.
prior to buying this machine my laundry day went something like this: go to laundry mat, load 6 washers with full loads, wait 1 hour, throw lovely clean clothes in dryers, wait 1 hour, take clothes home. 6 loads of laundry finished in two hours flat, perfectly clean, perfectly dry.
Now? Now my laundry day starts at 6 am and finishes sometime around 10 pm, three days a week, every week, forever. Every single item more complex in shape than a square hand towel gets put in a net garment bag. Otherwise the machine will pull the sleeves and/or legs off, tear hems, and rip zippers across every other garment in the washer load to great shredding effect. Also, be prepared for it to roll anything larger than a washcloth into a tight burrito. Obviously, this burrito of tightly rolled laundry will not wash, will throw off the spin cycle, and will come out worse off than it went in. Now that you've properly protected all your items, they get put into the bathtub with laundry soap and thoroughly wetted with the soapy water. Don't use extra soap! Only use the amount of soap recommended for a HE washer, or you'll end up with suds everywhere. Now then, the drenched soapy clothes are loaded into the washing machine and the bulky cycle with pre soak and extra rinse is selected regardless of what's to be washed. Before starting the cycle, remember to load several buckets worth of additional water into the basin by hand. Yes, you need to add more water in addition to the soaked clothes water. Once the first cycle is finished we get to begin the second cycle! So. Much. Fun. This 2nd cycle is ostensibly the "rinse" cycle, it doesn't really matter what you choose, it wont actually wash all the soap out from the first cycle that's already gone through three rinses, even though we only added the specified amount of soap for a HE machine in our bathtub water. Now that you have "washed" and "rinsed" your clothes with two wash cycles, we get to actually wash our clothes! Yes, yes, it's so exciting, I know. The third cycle is in fact the last washing the clothes will need to be "washed" and "rinsed." For this 3rd cycle we're adding whatever laundry detergent we want our clothes to smell and feel like. Personally I'm a fan of Zum, the clothes smell amazing, and feel fantastic. But only load the absolute bare minimum amount of detergent, if you're feeling particularly adventurous we can use as much as half a dose! Exciting stuff. Oh, and don't forget, you'll want to be sure to hit that "extra rinse" button! do. not. forget. Sometimes, it's still not enough and the clothes still feel coarse from the pH of the laundry detergent. If this occurs, you'll want to throw it through one last "drain and spin" cycle but with an "extra rinse." Now! after a torturous 4+ hours of washing, your HIGH EFFICIENCY machine has successfully cleaned your clothes. Aren't you feeling the energy and water savings? Boy I know I sure am, not.
why? why does all of this have to take place? because that's how little water this machine uses. it's impossible for it to result in clean clothes any other way. the bulky cycle adds the largest amount of water for the weight of the load. presoaking the load before adding it to the basin makes the load physically weigh more so that the machine's load sensors will add more water based on the weight of the load. the soap has to be added via the bathtub water soak because if you add the soap via the dispensing cup it doesn't actually disperse in enough water to evenly distribute across the entire load of clothes. all the extra rinsing because once the load is running there's no real way to get extra water in to rinse properly. I have frequently ended up tossing the load into the bathtub for a manual rinse because I didn't have the time to waste letting the machine rinse 4+ times just so I didn't have to take the time to do it manually.
Buying this machine, no matter how good the sale at the time, was a terrible terrible mistake that I regret on a near daily basis.
and if you were unfortunate enough to buy the matching dryer, you get to deal with the additional joy of watching it roll every single load into a giant burrito that you have to go and pull apart every 3 minutes to keep the load separated so it will actually dry in the dryer.

Very impressive!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We recently moved into our new home and we had Whirlpool washing machine and dryer installed, and I couldn't be happier with the choice! Both appliances are efficient, quiet, and easy to use.
The washing machine handles large loads effortlessly while using minimal water and energy. Clothes come out fresh and well-cleaned every time. I also love the variety of wash cycles, which let me customize settings for different fabrics.
The dryer is just as impressive! It dries clothes quickly and evenly, and the moisture sensor prevents over-drying, keeping my clothes in great condition.
Overall, Whirlpool has exceeded my expectations as compared to the previous brands i have used in the past. I highly recommend these appliances!
