disappointing features

Recently purchased a new townhome and selected the upgrade whirlpool appliances for my kitchen; microwave is vented directly to the outside; problem I have is that grease goes right into the cabinet doors located above the microwave; if I sautéed veggies, or brown meats, cook eggs, etc., whether on the front burners or back burners, it appears that nothing is caught in the filters and is deposited on the cabinet doors - it is a mess to clean-up; whirlpool has visited, and their response - that's just how it is! Not acceptable in my book. Very disappointed.

Poor features and venting

We bought this in January as part of a kitchen remodel; I really wanted an over-the-range micro/convection combo that vented outside, and took a chance on this one. I've been very disappointed.First, the lack of "one-touch" quick cook for 1-6 minutes, which I thought I wouldn't miss after I got used to it, turns out that the rest of the disappointing features just amplify that lack of convenience.Second- this microwave does not vent the steam that builds up inside the unit during cooking, so when you open the door, steam billows out, and the entire inside of the microwave is covered in moisture, requiring you to wipe it out completely every time.Third, the preprogrammed options for cooking and reheating, and the order they scroll through, are silly. Under "cook", one of the first options is french toast. Seriously? I don't know anyone who cooks french toast in a microwave. Frozen vegetables, one of the most common things to cook in a microwave, doesn't scroll by until the 5th option. The convection options, one of the key reasons I bought this, are also relatively useless. I wanted to use the convection feature to minimize "microwaving" as much as possible, but the things I want to cook are not listed. Specifically, squash, like acorn or butternut. When it finishes cooking, instead of going back to clock, the display asks you to entire more time, and doesn't go back to clock until you press "cancel". If you do nothing, it continues to "ask" you to enter more time, and more than an hour passes before it will at last return the clock display. During the "add more time" display, even the ONE quick cook option, 30 seconds, no longer works as a one-touch option. I have been through all the setup options, and there is no way to have it automatically return to clock after cooking. But the first two are the biggest disappointments, and I wonder how long until the insides deteriorate or rust from all the moisture accumulation. That last one, in my mind, is a serious design flaw, and now I'm stuck with it. Along with all the other annoyances and inconveniences.

VERY DISAPPOINTED... COMPLETELY RUSTY

I bought this EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE appliance on August 2012, and after a month, it was completely RUSTY inside, around the fan. The technician had to come twice to get the approval to replace it. I thought Whirlpool was a good brand, and the GOLD SERIES its top of the line, but I am very disappointed now... I am having worse issues with my refrigerators... GOLD SERIES as well.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Does what it is supposed to do. The closure latches are in the door. For a short person these (sharp) latches hit into my arm when placing food in/out of the appliance. BTW it is very quiet in operation.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had this for a few weeks and it is very easy to use and looks stunning in my kitchen. The only reason it is not getting a 5 star rating is because it is supposed to be finger print resistant but it is not. Finger prints can be easily seen on this unit, I am constantly cleaning it.

Good features, but. . . .

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I do have a few issues with this microwave. There are definite hot spots, so sometimes my food is cooked, sometimes it isn't. I really miss the "shortcut" function that my old GE had--if I wanted something cooked for, say, 4 minutes, I pressed & held "4" and it automatically took that to be a cook time & autostarted. There's no option for that on this one, and there really should be. I also hate that the instruction manual is a fold-out sheet instead of a booklet. I do like that the "cheat sheet" is laminated, though!
