[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had the V40 for a few weeks now and I'm really impressed. It does everything I need it to do. I wish the speaker volume was louder and that the battery lasted longer but overall I'm really glad I traded UP from an iPhone 8 Plus!! I also appreciate the extra year warranty!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] takestakes.I purchased the LG V40 ThinQ about a week ago. I was using an HTC 10 which I loved even though it had problems. The biggest reason for loving the HTC 10 was the sound through earphones. It was amazing and I didn't want to loose it. That brings me to the reason I purchased the LG V40. Surprisingly, not for the cameras but for the earphone jack and the sound that comes from it. I know I'm strange. But for some unknown reason, I buy phones for their sound not for their cameras.
My first week with this phone has been interesting. Was it love at first sight, no. But it was like. The clarity of the speaker phone call was fantastic.(much better than my HTC) All the sounds that come from the phone can be loud. For the first time since owning smartphones, I've actually lowered the volume. There is one fairly large issue concerning its sound; it only has 4 sliders to control all the different volumes. I'm used to 5 or 6 and I feel handcuffed by only 4. It took me days to figure out which slider did what, and I still don't have it nailed down. I use an app to lock the volumes so I don't accidentally lower the alarm or ringer. It has 6 sliders. Even after writing to the developer, we still can't get the correct volumes to lock. (A problem I didn't have with my HTC) This is definitely a shortcoming, but one I can live with because of the earphone sound. It takes a while to get the sound figured out because there are multiple settings. Most important is the graphic equalizer and you have to scroll to the bottom "Custom" selection to get it right. (I'm not a fan of pre-set equalizers)
There are many options that I really like: the Always On Display, the battery time, and the beautiful screen to name a few.
There also are a few minor issues:
1. They put the earphone jack on the bottom which interferes with standing up the phone.
2. No matter what the Display Time Out is set to, the screen darkens within a few seconds of no input. Makes it difficult to browse online, compose emails, etc. (It is possibly due to Android 8.1. )
3. I'm not a fan of glass phones. It makes no sense to make a mobile phone that gets dropped, sat on and tossed to be made out of glass. At least LG reinforced this phone with Gorilla Glass 5 to minimize breakage.
3. Finally, due to no fault of the phone, there are very few name brand companies making cases and/or glass screen protectors. I hope that will change.
All totaled, I really like this phone. After using it for a week, I am sorry that I hung on to my HTC 10 for so long. I'm not in love yet, but love takes time.
