Brilliant engineering
on November 1, 2018

I agree with most of the other comments. The designers are brilliant, the concept and the building process are original and challenging. Afew things might be improved (e.g. finishing for the boot, a liftable engine cover), but all in all I think the finished product is outstanding.
A warning: go slow and verify every step, you do not want to make an error early on and then find yourself having to undo 150 steps to fix a deeply buried problem. I stretched the construction over about two months, working 1-2 hours most days. (I photographed most of the steps, which took extra time, in case I made an error).
My friends, children, even my wife and 5 year old grandson, are all impressed with the result.

Fun Build!
on January 9, 2021

This is my first Technic build (well since the late 70's when they first came out anyways). It was great fun - I spent the week between C-mas and New Years building the Chiron. It was definitely more fun than I anticipated and the level of detailing is really nice. The engineering that went into the transmission, suspension, drivetrain, engine, etc is quite impressive.
The hood design is a little disappointing while the rear end is really nice!
Overall I found the instructions to be pretty good. Unfortunately I did make a mistake and had to do a partial tear-down which was a pain (see below). I believe in step 187, part 2, I reversed the small pin and this was impinging on the gears outside the motor. Somehow I missed this and had to go back from the end of Book 1 where the "marriage" process occurs.
Some thoughts:
- No missing pieces. I had the usual extra small pieces at the end too. - The transmission uses rubber bands to hold the gear selector. Inevitably these will dry out and break. It would be nice if Lego could figure out how to use springs instead. - If you need to tear down and re-build the model some of the pieces are brutally hard to remove. A great example would be the long gray pin pieces that slide into a blind hole (e.g. you cant push them out from the other end and the head of the pin is flush w/ the beam so you cant really grab onto it). See step 467 for example. I had to remove all the structure around the pin(s) and then twist all the parts until I could a grasp on the pin. Ideally Lego would add a slide on sleeve at the end of the pins so that there is some exposed length to grab onto. With this in mind moving forward I will probably never push blind pins in all the way until I'm 100% sure the build is correct!
All in all an amazing build that I would recommend to anyone.

Disappointed

I was really excited to get this set and try something to challenge myself and take time to build but as i proceeded to build the set i was missing several pieces to this set that were quite important to the set. If it weren't for saving my legos and looking throw my old settings to complete this set i wouldn't be done. I went through and counted 13 missing pieces in this set.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Bugatti Sanity Break
on July 6, 2018

Provided a much needed break from the stress of life and much more engaging than a couch and TV marathon. The engine and gearbox were my favorite parts of this engineered piece of excellence. After the build I found EL wire and added a working tail light and some undercarriage lighting just for fun. The amount of time spent building why not add another hour or two to make it your design?

I am fairly new to Lego, and this is my first Technic set. I was impressed by the quality of the packaging, and the representation of the mechanical elements of the real car, things like the engine, gearbox, steering input, etc. I love watching the rotation of the wheels interacting with the pistons of the engine. The novel elements, like the key, and the handbag were interesting too. I was worried that the "marriage process" would be difficult to align, but that wasn't the case at all.
Being Lego however, there are obvious limitations when replicating the bodywork of the car. I was particularly disappointed with the door and the way it shuts. It just doesn't feel properly shut. However, Technic has obviously come a long way from some of their earlier sets. Another disappointing thing is the need to stick on stickers. I have the Caterham set, and that has printed pieces. I believe printed pieces should be a given from such a premium product. I'm worried about the stickers fading in colour, or peeling over time.
Overall, it took me about 2 days to build the set, and I enjoyed most of it. It is about as close as I will get to a real Bugatti any time soon...

This is the coolest lego set.

If you are an average Lego builder, do not attempt to build this, it will take you WEEKS! Like me, An expert builder, who has built at least 110 Lego sets, this even challenged ME.I bought this set with the intent of having a awesome 100th Lego set, and this was by far the BEST and most detailed set I've EVER built. This is my favorite car and I thought that it would be really cool to be my 100th. I picked right. This is a whopping 22 INCHES long and it's EPIC!! I really recommend this to you if you like cars. BRAVO LEGO!

Very incredible set! So amazed at how many working parts are in this car! Everything from the unique rims to the working w-16 motor and shifting gearbox! The fully functioning awd with real front and rear differentials is a jaw dropping engineering feat! Just add an opening hood amd more visible motor and ill be happy!

Must have for any technic collector

This has to be one of the best technic sets ever made, apart from the suspension which doesn’t cope well with the wieght of the car. However the rest of the car is simply epic, the overall detail is simply top level stuff. If anyone does read this review, it is well worth adding to you Technic collection. I now just have to find room to put it, probably between 42056 and 41999. Thanks Lego for a fantastic product.
