I am fairly new to Lego, and this is my first Technic set. I was impressed by the quality of the packaging, and the representation of the mechanical elements of the real car, things like the engine, gearbox, steering input, etc. I love watching the rotation of the wheels interacting with the pistons of the engine. The novel elements, like the key, and the handbag were interesting too. I was worried that the "marriage process" would be difficult to align, but that wasn't the case at all.
Being Lego however, there are obvious limitations when replicating the bodywork of the car. I was particularly disappointed with the door and the way it shuts. It just doesn't feel properly shut. However, Technic has obviously come a long way from some of their earlier sets. Another disappointing thing is the need to stick on stickers. I have the Caterham set, and that has printed pieces. I believe printed pieces should be a given from such a premium product. I'm worried about the stickers fading in colour, or peeling over time.
Overall, it took me about 2 days to build the set, and I enjoyed most of it. It is about as close as I will get to a real Bugatti any time soon...

A very high quality set

This set was my long awaited birthday present. I got the Porsche a few years back, and I was extremely excited for that, but this was a whole new story. I got it and spend the whole day building it, and I barely saw the light of day, on the build day. The build is a bit boring, but make sure to take a picture and a break when you finish the transmission, as you will never see it in the same cool way, after you put the engine on top. The final build is rewarding. The interior is especially more detailed than the Porsche, but everything is at least a bit more detailed. I recommend building building this set over a span of at 2-3 days. I would recommend this set even though the price is a bit of a hurdle to jump over. Overall a fantastic set can’t wait for the next super/hypercar.

Awesome building experience!
on July 22, 2018

In the recent years I have bought several of the largest and most complex technic sets, and I also make some creations of my own. So I think have some experience when it comes to building technic sets.
Therefore I wasn´t expecting this to be an especially challenging build. But I was wrong. I really had to stay focused to get it all right. And if you mess up, it might be difficult to correct later on. Based on this complexity and the advanced building techniques, I really loved building it. I spent seven evenings building at a slow pace, so I could learn some new tricks and avoid errors, and at the same time just enjoy the experience.
From time to time I think the MOC community makes better products than the LEGO-group. But with the Bughatti Chiron LEGO are back in the front seat, showing the rest of us how its done. Great work, designteam!! Make more sets like this in the future, please.
Make sure you listen to the podcasts, they really add value to the whole experience.
I have some minor suggestions that might be relevant for future ultimate technic sets:
- Prepare the car for power functions. Sure, the MOC community will motorize this car. But it would be nice to just add motors without potentially ruining the design.
- Make doors less flimsy and make the door mechanisms more realistic
- Avoid weird errors like the soft springs in the front of the car (and the gears in the Porsche)
Buy it, you will not regret it!

The best Chiron model kit on the market
on July 18, 2018

This LEGO Chiron kit is STELLAR. It took me in total 18.5 hours (12 late evenings sessions) of getting these 3.5k+ pieces built together to this awesome looking display model (actually this is my 2nd one following the Porsche kit which also is an outstanding piece of art and of engineering craftmanship).
It takes more than just the playful skills of a kid to build this Chiron kit and this work provides a lot of sweat even to the more advanced builder.
The best advice is to follow each and every single step in the two manual books in order to avoid any frustration when it comes to the marriage and to the very detailed body/frame.
I took pictures every time I finished with one of the 13 bags, so I could show my building progress step by step to family and friends (besides slapping my shoulders what a great result I accomplished with my own two hands...)
The engine with its 16 pistons/valves is my favorite (zero flaws!), shifting the gears is quite challenging, but who dares to critize anyone who was involved in this professional engineering project process? Certainly not me. LEGO and BUGATTI both did a great job on the design of the kit and of the box(es). Superior quality materials result in an adequate price tag, so anyone who wants to buy cheap gets cheap, of course.
The body shape and color looks authentic, the interior and wheels too. The plastic parts which form the horseshoe on the front is indeed the one and the only thing that looks cheapish to me.
I am confident that LEGO is on the right track by having invented this supercar series within their Technic sets. Looking forward to the next exciting one (in 2020?)!

Super Value

Don't normally write reviews. But felt strongly about writing one for this set because of how much fun I had building it. As a car enthusiast and lego fan it was like building a car from scratch all the components were so true to life and it was definitely abit of a challenge getting it all together and took me some time.
While somewhat expensive the experience building it is totally worth the money, followed by the beautiful and true to life end product.

All Consuming!

I opened the vast box as soon as it arrived, after taking it out of two other boxes. (It arrived safely.) What a sight! The packaging is beautiful, with 5 of the 6 Building Boxes carrying an image of the front of a Bugatti Chiron. The 6th box was showing off the lovely wheels.
With so many pieces, apparently 3,599, the instructions came in two substantial books.
Well, I started at the beginning. After 32 hours, spread over 3 days, I finished. I couldn't see any reason to do anything else.
Building the gearbox was a major highlight. It's so complicated with it's sequential shifting of 8 gears and 4 wheel drive. Unfortunately, once the build is over, it can't be seen. However, I built it, so I know! You can take a peek at my uploaded image. Please excuse the rotation.
About half of the time was spent building the mechanicals, then there was adding all of that bodywork.
The build was a great challenge and the reward is amazing. Who knew that 3,599 LEGO parts weighs in at 2.9kg :)

Bugatti Chiron

Was a fantastic kit, tons of detail and interesting features. It was more difficult than the Porche 911 GT3 RS, special attention is needed on the gear box and marriage of the front and rear sections. After building half, leaving for camping and coming back, the seventh gear has stopped working and jams when I try to use it, but I prefer 8th gear anyway so it doesn't matter too much. Overall it is a fantastic kit that I would recommend for any car/lego enthusiast.
