Mack Anthem

This set is mostly intended for display purposes as it lacks in functions. However, it is very detailed and looks amazing. I just wish the trailer was a lot longer.

Excellent model, nice to see a scale model that's not a car.

Mack Anthem

The 2017 Technic releases didn't appeal to me, (thank goodness that there was plenty in the Creator series to fill the gap) so I was very pleased when this came out at the beginning of 2018. I had to wait three weeks for it to arrive but it was worth it.
On opening the box I initially thought I would be disappointed at the size of this model based solely on the wheel size, the picture on the box is a great deal bigger than the model, but the end result is terrific.
I found the build to be very easy, but delightfully time consuming. There are a large number of small pieces to contend with, but the numbered bags deliver exactly what you need for each stage of the build (for the Mack Anthem anyway, probably not the rubbish truck), which is extremely helpful when trying to find a small part. Others have complained of missing parts, but there were no missing parts and all the right colour - as is usually the case in my experience.
This will make a great display model as the compactness of the build makes it look very realistic. I have built many Technic models and this one rates highly along with the mobile crane mark II, the crane truck, Volvo front loader and the tracked digger.
Much as I still like the old style of engine, especially the V8s, the new engine design turns out to be a great success despite my initial scepticism and clearly the old style engine would not have fitted in the available space.
I usually much prefer the model to be motorised, but I can understand the lack of motorisation as the torque required to turn the gears to raise and lower the load is obviously too much for even the biggest of the Technic motors, But I may still try and motorise the drive and steering with infra red control, although the compactness of the build may make hiding the motors difficult.
I would highly recommend this model and it marks a great start for Technic for 2018.

My son loves this, he calls it the ice road truckers lorry, lots of play ideas. I just loved the build hard on the fingers but a great result

Amazingly detailed build

I have built many technic sets. This by far takes the cake. Every small detail inside the truck is spot on. The size of this set is impressive also. The color scheme was great and playability is awesome. Who wouldn't want a mini model of a mack truck? Lego designers did a fantastic job on this build.

First technic build

This was my first ever technic build, and while I found it a bit challenging, I really enjoyed it! I did not build the garbage truck part, but I am happy with the way the parts work and how everything seemed to come together nicely. I will definitely be trying out more technic builds!

Overall it is a good looking design and worth the money to buys as it have 2500+ bricks
However, it doesn't have a very complex gear train system nor good suspension system.

Subpar for Lego Standards

This is the eighth large set (sixth Technic) I've completed in recent years. In all of the previous sets, I've never had a problem with part quantity or color. On this build, though, I had problems with both. Not only were parts missing, some of the included parts were the incorrect color. Sure, the structure turned out the same, but the aesthetics are off having a grey piece where there should be a black one.
As others have said, lifting the container can be quite difficult due to the sheer forces involved. A cantilevered side lift is difficult with the best of materials- plastic just adds to that difficulty . The steering of the cab is also difficult at times due to the close quarters of the tires to the fenders and frame.
Overall, this set was average, at best. There are far better Technic sets available
