I wanted this camera since if was introduced to the consumer world. I fought with myself over the price for a long time. I downloaded the manual and read it prior to buying the camera. It takes a lot to get use, sometimes overwhelming. I do 90% action sports photography. This camera is absolutely unbelievable to put it mildly. I just finished shooting an AMA Pro flat-track motorcycle race where the bikes reached speeds in excess of 137 mph. I was able to track and shoot the action at 12 fps using a 70-200L lens with absolutely no issues at all. I shot these bikes within 5 feet of my position and was able to capture the facial expressions (which in itself is almost impossible to accomplish). Forget the price. This camera is the utmost piece of digital equipment on the market today.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, Complicated controls/menu
I would recommend this to a friend!

Flows Like Butter

This is my review of the Canon 1DX. This camera is considered to be the flagship pro photographer DSLR manufactured by Canon, which was released originally in the spring of 2012. As of this writing today February 5th 2016, Canon just announced 3 days ago their upcoming successor to the 1DX, the Canon 1DX Mark II. Regardless of the new exciting news, the Canon 1DX still packs a magnificent technological punch!
The first time that I picked up this camera, I could not believe that so much power could be encased in such a device. the 1DX is definitely a big camera and it is certainly built like a tank, but it was easy to getting used through the user interface software because I'm familiar with several other Canon cameras. One of the biggest highlights about this camera that I'm so impressed with is the insanely fast 12 FPS (frames per second). When using the camera to shoot sports and fast action movements, the 1DX does a marvelous job at capturing subjects frame by frame with ease. The high 12 FPS is also aided by an extremely advanced and super-fast autofocusing system with 61 points. Even if the first one or two shots comes out of focus, the rest of the shot and hi continuous mode adjusts quickly in focus and will make your images will be tack sharp on your subjects.
Despite having a lower 18-megapixel sensor compared to most DSLR's on the market, the 1DX still produces fairly detailed images full of rich color rendering, sharp contrast and clean images. Those clean images are aided by a very sophisticated ISO light sensitivity system which ranges from 100 to 51,200. It's amazing how this camera produces clean images still in low light environments and situations.
The Canon 1DX is Canon's first 1D series with both a full frame sensor, high frame per second, HD 1080p video and fully equipped with the highest specifications required for pro sports photography. The 1DX is best suited for sports, wildlife, and professional events. The 1DX is without compromise and it is still leaps and bounds beyond in today's marketplace. If you're in need for one, life is too short so go get one!

Canon C300, 5DII, C100 User adds 1DX MKII

I recently purchased the 1DX mkII after seeing the specs on the new 5dmk4. This is a wonderful camera with the canon image you'd expect. I gave it an average rating because here in 2016 other than the wonderful AF there's really nothing else groundbreaking about the camera. Don't get me wrong, the AF is amazing but ....
It really seems strange to me that Canon would not include features like C Log for for video and the lack of 4k HDMI output is also strange considering that many cameras costing $3000 LESS have these features. These really aren't even features anymore this is the norm other than with Canon. Canon's own XC10 has C Log for under $3k but for $6k it's not included?
I have to say that for the first time in years I'm disappointed with Canon video. Shame.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Note that I wanted to withhold a star for overall rating because there is no clean HDMI output (the 5D3 got that update a few months ago, but the more expensive 1DX has been snubbed! so far.). Canon, please get on this! But I withheld a star from features for this reason.
Image quality is great; color, sharpness, low-noise. The High ISO capability has changed the way I take many still pictures. Indoors can now often be without flash or added lighting, which not just makes things easier, but also allows 'seeing' right off what a shot will look like (you can avoid flash/strobe 'flatness' and maintain the direction of the lighting (which might be the key to why the scene/framing caught your eye in the first place), and naturally you can be more stealth too). Of course there's softness/noise as the ISO gets in the upper 4 and into the 5 digits, but the advantage of being able to use a faster shutter speed negates this by avoiding motion blur. Can't do that (yet) with medium format cameras. Still, I use ISO 100 a lot, and it is sharp and smooth as butter.
The frame rate is phenomenal. And at full-frame size, this is really a big, big deal for catching action and multi-exposure effects. Focusing is now often like it's supposed to be: quick and spot on, especially with the good L lenses (the focusing updates were a pleasant welcome too). It can take a bit of playing around but when you get the focusing and that frame rate working together, look out. Can't do stuff like that (yet) with medium format resolution cameras.
In general, the 18 megapixel is better (cleaner) than having a more noisy higher megapixel image. In other words, it seems to me that, for examples, the 5D3 and D800 can show more detail, but when you zoom in to equivalent pixel size esp. over 100 percent, the 1DX is cleaner at equivalent percentages (Maybe it's the photosite size ----certainly when you compare the (also) 18 mp 7D you can see the massive difference in noise, with the 1DX far far better (never mind the color and DR, and ISO differences); though I know the 7D is 'old'). If you want more megapixel landscapes, maybe use a panoramic head and stitch them (2 shots at 18mp will blow away a single D800 36 mp landscape pic any day)
* Needs a clean HDMI output (even the much cheaper 5D3 has that now!). For video use, would also be nice if it had focus peaking (but even the 1DC doesn't have that -- which, if it did, I'd be more strongly considering that camera (can THAT be in a 1DC firmware update, Canon?).
Weight and size of camera doesn't bother me, because I like the stability and the way it feels balanced in my hands. So it's more often a plus than a negative. I would say it's challenging to use, not difficult, since, it's a pro camera after all.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: Missing features/settings, needs clean hdmi output like the 5d3 got, no focus peaking for live view/movies

Great Body

The day I received my 1DX I had to cover a volleyball game for the local paper. I had just enough time to charge 1 battery and head out the door. That evening I considered sending it back, I was sick, all my shots were back focused or totaly blurry. After reading over the manual and working with the camera (not under deadline) i have fallen in love with the beast. It took several weeks to figure out all the bells and wistles and there are still more to master. The new firmware updates also helped the focus issues. For those who think it is heavey, all 1 series bodies are about the same weight. The images this camera makes are so much better than any other camera body I was using before. The usable ISO range is also a big help, I can shoot in dark arenas at 25,000 ISO and get images that are as good as 1600 ISO from my 1DMK2N. This is the camera I was hoping Canon would build and they finaly did.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, easy to use, 2 cf slots
Cons: shutter sound is loud

Fantastic Camera!!

I've been a photographer for over 40 years. I rented this camera before I bought it. The picture quality is the best I've ever seen with a digital or film camera. That's one reason I bought it. The other reason is I shoot a lot of motorcycle races and need a camera that can focus "fast". The 1Dx is a camera that's super fast for sports and also perfect for still life, models, whatever. It's not cheap, but the best never is.
Pros: quiet, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, fast focusing
I would recommend this to a friend!

EOS-1D X Purchase

I have had a few months to learn this camera. I find that it is the very best Canon Professional Camera to date. The build and image quality is superb. The menu system is failry simple, but one may need some practice to use it fast and confidently. This is my third Canon camera and my second digital Canon camera. The only issues with the camera, which I deem negligble are its weight, cannot access highlight and shadow information at the same time, and a bit noisy when using video.
Also, I wish it were completely compatible with the earlier 1.4 and 2.0 extenders. Especially, when they are used with the earlier 200mm and 400mm 2.8 L lenses . This is the best digital camera, I have ever used.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, great product
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

As a Wedding Photographer, I depend on the Best Camera and Glass Possible. With the Canon EOS-1DX Body, now I can shoot the photographs that I always envision with much ease and comfort.
To much Amazement, the 1DX seems understand exactly how I feel on any challenging assignment. This camera allows me to Perform and Be at my Best in Every Single Moment, for example while shooting Weddings.
The 1DX gives me the peace of mind that I know that I will get the photograph that my clients are looking for. I have used every Canon EOS camera available since the 1980's and today. I can now say that this is Canon's real true Flagship camera of all time.
I really have no other words to say. The success of my work is due largely because of the kind of tools I use. Canon has truly made the Ultimate Go Anywhere, Shooting Dynamo of a Camera… Mahalo Canon for the 1DX.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable
