Laptop has great performance and great specs but the advertised battery life is pure fiction (three to four hours, if I'm careful, for web browsing / watching YouTube and the like...about 25% of the advertised battery life). Also, it often does not connect to my external monitor even after spending about an hour with a very nice and competent tech support agent.
I've finally got it working properly most of the time with my monitor but the battery life is still quite disappointing.

Everything about this laptop is great. The feel of the chassis, the display is very comfortable after using it for hours, the keyboard is among the best. Only slight issue is how loud the fans are as they try to cycle through cooling the GTX1050 graphics card. The matte black finish does highlight finger prints, but I don’t care as everything else shouts “premium”
I've had my X1 for a few weeks now and it seems to be running well. The screen is terrific and speed has been solid so far. I do have a concern about the noise of the fan, which is quite loud at times, but then dies down to near silence. I've also found it gets uncomfortably hot on my lap, which somewhat defeats the purpose of a laptop. Part of me wonders whether this is normal for all X1s, or if there's a defect in mine.
After looking at online tech reviews and on the recommendation of a reviewer, and after having three hard drive failures with other brands, I bought the X1 Extreme. I travel a lot and this one comes with high ratings for harsh treatment (bumps, heat, …). Two weeks later, I'm very happy with the speed and optimistic about durability.
Resolution recalibration will be necessary when switching between some screens and programs (mostly games but some other apps as well) if you decide on the full hdr display option. Not sure if it the same story for the HD display option, something to consider. Also, Windows hello is garbage if the lighting conditions are not %100, not Lenovo’s fault.
I have recently bought an Thinkpad X1 Extreme because my aging T520 is unable to run many modern programs, and I have to say that I am mostly happy with how it turned out. The system runs nicely and I have yet to encounter any glaring errors. The worst thing that I can say is that I had a pixel die on the third day, but on my 4K screen, it is not very noticeable.
Perhaps I'll state here why I got this laptop and how it lives up to those standards.
First off, I am going into Computer Science and I am trying to learn the ins of outs of GNU/Linux, and so far, Ubuntu 18.04 works like a charm. I'll admit I had to do some troubleshooting, but it wasn't too bad. I still haven't gotten the webcam or the fingerprint sensor working, mainly because I don't care/haven't tried to get it to work. The Pen Pro works out of the box with Ubuntu which I am very happy about.
The second reason that I chose this laptop is because of Thinkpad's reputation with longevity. Recently, I saw a similar computer on sale (I don't remember the brand) at the same configuration and price, except it came with an i9 core instead of my i5. Now, the horror stories I hear from other devices is that they do not last as long, they are not as durable. I have a friend who had a laptop break after water was spilled upon it. The main reason that I chose Lenovo is that my previous device lasted 9 years and I have yet to see it slow down or stop working, while other devices can see at most 3-4 years before ceasing to function. It is truly difficult to give a rating at this point because I do not know how long my X1 will last, and how many functions may break in that time.
Do I recommend this device? It is too soon to say.
