Best out-of-the-box gift ever

I had NO idea what this was, just that my wife bought it for us for Christmas. As I began to easily assemble it, I saw what it was - a fan assisted fire pit that killed smoke AND allowed cooking. We set it up, put in 4 dry split wood logs, fired it up and it generated more heat than our portable pit that is 10 times larger. Brilliant device. Portable. Safe. Functional. Even pretty.

Great Product

We read lots of mixed reviews and are very pleased with our biolite fire pit. Yes, there still is smoke but it is drastically reduced. The fan does create a small harmonic buzz but it is not bad like what was said in some of the reviews.
We have now retired our portable pellet grill. We would recommend this product to anyone that is a camper or out doors person.

Equals the hype and more

I was looking for a firepit that could double as a hibachi style grill. Looked at several options and looked no further than Biolite when I learned about this offering due to good performance of other products I own. I did do the research and coonsidered the good reviews with the bad before taking the plunge to buy two. I could not be more pleased after putting the pits through there paces. The mesh gives you a clear view of the fire and the heat is adequate for my purposes as a personal firepit. At 48 degrees I wondered whether the heat would be adequate, but after shutting it down and experiencing the conditions it gave me a better understanding of its heat output and how well it warmed my upper body. I only needed to use the fan on 1 speed to retain a pleasant flame, and 2 once I lessened the fuel preparing for shutdown. Level 5 quickly spent the remaining fuel and reduced it to fine ash. I wasnt sure about this fire pit when doing my research, but I am sure glad I took the plunge since the fire pit has passed my dual purpose use with flying colors.

Awesome anywhere grill

Purchased the FirePit because we do a lot of van-camping on BLM land in the summer, and also enjoy grilling with charcoal year-round. First use - built a small fire with some pre-chopped wood from Wal-Mart with the intention of grilling up some kebabs. The fire was almost too easy to get started, and gave off a good amount of heat with just two pieces of wood. The smoke is there, but greatly reduced. It gets even less smoky as the wood starts to burn down a little. We slowly added a couple more pieces, but it was so efficient we didn't need to add any more the rest of the night. Once the wood burnt down and the coals started raging we tossed the kebabs on there and turned off the fan (down to 4/5 lights after two hours) They cooked beautifully, and had a nice smoky flavor that you can only get over a wood fire. I've been dreaming of that flavor ever since.
5/5, would definitely recommend to everyone I know. Go kebab it up!

I've used this a few times so far, mostly for camping, and I've only had trouble lighting it once. However, this little machine was also a huge help in disposing of twigs and branches that fell off my trees this winter.

Excellent portable firepit!

Fantastic firepit, easy to assemble, and easy to use! Highly recommend!!
I ordered off the website, and everything arrived well packed, secured, and protected. After unpacking all components, the only assembly required is securing the carrying handles into position, which you can do with or without a Phillips screwdriver. The fan unit was about 2/3 charged and took about an hour to reach fully charged.
I used it for the first time at Carolina Beach, and it was perfect! I used a small amount of dryer lint, tinder, and firewood purchased at a gas station; with the fan on the low setting, it took about 5 minutes before the fire was ready to use for grilling. The sliding grill grate is extremely useful for adjusting the food you’re grilling based on the level of heat your fire is producing. With ease, I grilled multiple rounds of two burgers and sliced zucchini at the same time. Later that night, I made another fire in the same manner described above, and we cooked the perfect s’mores.
Whether using the fan on low or high setting, very few pieces of ash or small flaming embers escaped outside the firepit. It is 100% safe for use around small children.
Removing the ash was simple and easy. Slide the door aside and dump the ash out of the bottom.
I ran the fan for maybe 3 hours, mostly on low but occasionally bumping up to high, and charged an iPhone; altogether this used about 1/3 of the battery.
I’m extremely happy with this purchase and you will be too!

Let me tell you, if you are a BBQ/Firepit lover you will never want to leave the side to this thing. Its' sooo good, as a firepit itself and as a BBQ it does miracle. And it's never been easier to start a fire. And as far a the battery goes, it's working really well, we have been using the BBQ 3 imes in the past week for about 3-4 hours each times and still the battery is working perfectly. If my husband and I would have known this product before, cooking would have been a different story. And the BBQ get cold after 10 minutes so you don't have to wait an hour like most BBQ. I would be purchasing it every week if we had to.
It's a really gift also so someone who likes camping!

This is a badass fire pit.
It works exactly as described and it’s obvious that Biolite has put a lot of R+D into this product. Their videos aren’t modified to exaggerate things.

It does produce less smoke than a standard fire pit, not completely smokeless all the time but quite good.
It also uses approx 1/2 the firewood compared to a typical large truck rim fire pit.
I only burnt 5 bags over 3 nights.
I could burn that in 1.5 nights easily in a regular fire pit to get this good of flame height.

That being said, with a bag of firewood being $10 each up here in Canada, when you do the math, and use this fire pit a fair bit all summer like I plan to, it basically pays for itself.

I was under the impression that low would be a little flame and high would be a large flame height. Low lasting much longer than high for run time.
Well I was pleasantly surprised to learn that a “max” setting tends to keep the flame height lower, and a lower setting will allow for larger/higher flames and a longer run time!
It’s badass to see the phone app show that there is still 23hrs estimated run time left, after running for a good couple hrs.
There are ZERO issues running this thing all night. ALL night.
