Rusts very easily and quickly

We bought this fire pit. Used it once and it rusted. It is a fire pit to be used outside. It is too hot to bring it in immediately after use. This was during a dry week in the summer we finally used it. Emailed customer serivce and they would only send a touch up kit. The stove is all rust on the wire mesh. Very disappointed in the product for what it cost.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Wry disappointed. Just received the unit, used newspaper as fuel below the firewood to get it started. Once the log caught fire, I used the fan at each of the four levels. But it still smoked like every other fire pit using real wood. The fan made no difference. I had the fan blowing smoke away from the house but my house still smells like it. Wish I could upload the video I took showing the very visible smoke. The fan at the highest speeds (above 1 out of four) is actually loud too.

I have the biolite camp stove, and it charges it's own battery from the heat of the fire. Why isn't that option built into this firepit?

Used the FirePit for the first time on our camping trip in Voyageurs National Park and it couldn't have worked better. Fire started right up without having to baby it at all. Had hot cooking coals within minutes. Turned fan off and cooked hotdogs, burgers, and pork chops on the grill. Then threw some more wood on and turned on fan and fire roared back to life. It worked better than I could have hoped and saved so much time cooking dinner. Used way less wood than traditional fire too, so saved time collecting wood. Ran the fan for at least 4 hours a night for 3 nights and battery only down 1 bar. Would highly recommend this product

Doesn’t Work

I saw this on TV and ordered one right away. When I received the fire pit the fan did not work and it will not charge. After doing a bit of research I found out that many people have had the same issue. I guess biolite charges top dollar for something that doesn’t work.

Good and smart product

I am using it for two years, I take it everywhere and use it on my backyard. It is charging fine, my first one I had to return because of charging and the ventilation starting problems. Only problem I see is the grill starts to wear out and there is no parts for sale and the walls of the pit are rusting bad and I have to brush them often, I hope they will offer replacement parts soon!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Fair to good fire enclosure

Ordered the FirePit Starter Kit back in mid-November. Was promptly informed things were on back-order, but I could expect my order to arrive in December. Subsequently informed again that things were delayed, but they hoped to get my order shipped in December. Finally, emails arrived saying my order was being shipped, then on its way, then to be delivered—today! And...most of it arrived. The FirePit arrived. Not the rest of the Starter Kit. The BioLite website now says the FirePit Starter Kit is no longer available. I have never received notice that anything other than what I ordered was being shipped, or that I should have a partial refund coming, etc. I have emailed customer service and am awaiting response.
On the plus side, the FirePit functioned more or less as advertised. Assembly was straightforward, though one of the screws by which the handles were attached only went in at an angle, leaving a tiny bit of wobble in the handle. The sheet metal is no thicker than necessary, and the handles don’t feel very substantial. The screen looks nice, and functioned well to keep most sparks inside the enclosure. Mounting the battery/fan unit was simple, and it seems sturdy in its attachment. Turning on the power immediately lit up the LEDs for battery strength indication, and pressing the power button repeatedly cycled the fan through its four speeds. The fan did increase burn rate and burn thoroughness, though its effect on reducing smoke was less than the advertisements and descriptions might lead one to believe. When I turned the fan off and left the FirePit to burn itself out, the remaining wrist-thick logs burned partially before extinguishing. The fan itself was fairly quiet on the lowest of four settings, noticeable on the second, and loud enough to be annoying on the third and fourth-highest settings. The battery is now recharging with the included cable.
The FirePit is a bit too small to be enjoyed by more than three or four people at most, and that only visually; the heat output is not adequate to do more than allow one or two people to warm hands (temp in the thirties, very little wind), and then only with some sacrifices re social distancing. Once the fire was fully extinguished, I was able to dump the partial logs and ashes without too much difficulty, but wiping out the interior with a dry cloth didn’t clean it as well as I’d like. I was reluctant to use a damp or wet cloth since materials shipped with the FirePit strongly recommended against allowing the FirePit to be exposed to moisture. (Perhaps rust has been an issue for many customers?) I have not yet used the sit-on-top grill.
All things considered, the BioLite FirePit does a fair to good job of providing the comforts (at least visual/psychological) of a small fire while increasing safety and convenience. It is smaller than we imagined, and the fan noisier than we’d hoped, but it’s a decent product overall. Would recommend to a friend only with qualifications about product noted above.
