Fast and easy fire

I just got mine and set it up with no hassles. Packaging was very good - especially the 'bubble tube wrap' they used. Used it 4 times to far with no problems - the fan *really* helps getting the wood going (mine was green/wet). Anything under the fire pit will get very hot: kills grass on the lawn, wood deck was too hot to touch (instructions say to not use this on flammable materials so it is not like they implied you could do so, but I wanted to try...). Looks very nice at a distance and allows people to get closer to the fire (marshmallows...) without getting burned or breathing lots of smoke. A keeper. The battery on the fan has been at full (4 lights lit) the entire time, so either we aren't using it very hard or the solar charger in the cover is doing a nice job keeping it topped off; I haven't plugged it into an outlet once yet. I plan on making a thin heat shield to put underneath the pit to protect the ground since everywhere I want to use this is heat sensitive one way or another. I am using this more frequently than I thought I would because it is so quick and easy to set up, get lit, and have a fire, and then again very easy to clean up when done. The entire thing cools off very quickly compared to other fire pits, etc., - not immediately, but by the time I have put the coals out and put away all the 'stuff' and food, the pit is cool enough to touch and ready for the cover to go on it.

Biolite Firepit

As a Biolite customer, I have a number of their products, and now a Fire pit. The first thing I did was attempt to cook steaks. Please note that you need to only use half the amount of charcoal that you think you need to use. This product will save you money on charcoal, without a doubt. It was nice to be able to drop the grill plate down after cooking and have a Fire within seconds. This product is well made and I know it will last for many years. We will be taking this product on every camping trip from now on. The fact that you can cook on it and enjoy a nice fire with minimal smoke makes a nice combination. I usually don't 5 star rate anything, but Biolite has raised the bar on a great product. I purchased the solar carrying case as well, and was very happy about it's efficiency to charge the power pack and charge our phones. I plugged in the Biolite flexible light and was able to better see what I was cooking as dusky dark was settling in. If we had a power outage at home, the Fire pit would come in handy if we wanted to charge something or cook. I highly recommend the Fire pit.

Well Designed - Easy to Operate

This is by far the easiest fire I have ever started and the floating fire effect is really cool. The iPhone app installed and works flawlessly. I will now be able to add a campfire where I could not before such as the beach and a local winery where i can keep the fire low and it won’t bother anyone because of the lack of smoke. I am never disappointed with biolite products and the Firepit is no exception. Thank you for another great product!

Awesome, simply awesome

We've had three nights of fires so far... and it has been awesome. Best campfires we've ever had. Start up is so much easier, and once started it gives almost no smoke. All for similar to or less than you'd pay most standard fire bowl. It is "portable" as well, but I won't be taking this into the wilderness on a canoe -- this is fairly large and heavy. This is for home use, cottaging or car camping only.
A few notes:
- I wish that the fan were a bit quieter. It is noticeable on all but the lowest level, and fairly loud on the highest setting
- I wish it had a thermal electric generator (TEG) like many of the other biotite products - I know that this was probably done to keep costs down, but I would have gladly paid more for this if it were an option. A larger battery would also be a good accompaniment to a TEG.
- The firepit does not put much heat out to the sites -- it all seems to go straight up. While this is fine right now, I'm guessing come the fall I'll be wishing for more warmth around the camp fire.

Way To Go Biolite! Firepit is as promised.

Sweeeeet! The FirePit is everything that was promised. This thing rocks in the backyard or on campsite. It kept us sweet and warm and in hot water at this year's rainy 24 hour Summer Solstice Relay, that got shortened to 18hrs. It did a corn roast at a mountain bike race bbq event. It has been enjoyed in the backyard. All with virtually no smoke! Fire starts easily and burns wonderfully. Helped create a wonderful atmosphere at events and in the backyard. Wet wood and wet socks/underwear can be dried easily under the FirePit too, but don't leave it too long. I daisy chained it with my Campstove to charge the battery to see if that would work and it does seem to. Haven't tried charging with both going at the same time.
Two cautions: this thing produces a lot of heat, don't have anything above it, including trees. I lost a branch off a mature maple that was 3-4 m above the FirePit. The leaves were desiccated by the heat and were pretty shriveled and turned brown the next day. Don't put on your grass or or other living things. There is enough heat coming off the bottom to kill a patch of grass after a 2 hour burn.

Fire pit review

I have really enjoyed the fire pit. At night you can fire it up and barbecue, roast wieners, marshmallows or just sit and relax. I could not wait to receive it! When I first saw it on a advertisements I said I have to have it! Great job on build and development!

I currently own several BioLite items, and when I saw the FirePit, and the fact that it would greatly minimize the smoke, I had to try it. As with all the products I have purchased from BioLite, it has exceeded my expectations. Little to no smoke, and a very efficient burn, with little ash afterward. It is great for a campfire, or to cook on, and the fan is very quiet.
