Great little pit

Everyone I know loves this thing. It's easy to tote around, creates delicious flavors in meat and veggies and keeps you warm while not usi g up a crazy amount of wood. 0lus there's no moving around as the wind turns because there's no smoke, apart from when you start up! The fan lasts even longer than advertised, and the fire looks super cool. I can't say enough good things. Love steaks cooked with cherry wood!

Efficient fire, lovely glow

I was one of the Kickstarter crew as I love BioLite products. I've used this several times on my back patio (but can't use it on the wooden deck) and in the driveway. The fan helps the flames burn quickly and efficiently, and as long as your wood is dry there's very little smoke, just like the other BioLite stoves. Cooked sausages, steaks, and s'mores over it with the kids. The solar cover charged up the battery, and after 3 hours of use, the battery did not show any drain.

Great Fun with the FirePit

We use it on a weekly basis (FirePit Fridays) and everyone loves it.
Favorite part is the Hot to Cold process. Dump the hot coals/ash and turn the fan on HIGH and it's packed up and in the solar cover in under 10mins. Charge it up and its ready to go again.

Great for cooking

I've used my FirePit twice now. Both times for cooking. The fans make a huge difference in how long it takes the charcoal to ash over and be ready for cooking. Easily cuts the time in half if not more.
I also have the solar cover and it did a great job charging the battery pack. When I first got my FirePit I picked it up from FedEx and I went straight to my camping trip. I was able to use the fans by solely charging the battery using the solar panel.

I love campfires. At least, I thought I loved them.
I've done a lot of car camping and a decent amount of backpacking. Campfires have been a huge part of that. When I saw this firepit on Kickstarter, I was instantly hooked because they promised to fix the only thing I didn't like about a campfire - the smoke. I really don't love smoke in my eyes and honestly I don't love smelling like smoke.
I am extremely pleased. I've used this about a half dozen times so far. I have to say that I don't want to go back to an open pit campfire again. Each time has been a really pleasant experience all the way from starting the fire (the low fan setting makes this easy) to the fact that there is very little smoke throughout the life of fire. I say very little because I have gotten some smoke, but it is so much less than a typical fire and it is also because I overfilled or blocked the vents.
I love the portability of this, and I love how it performs. The mesh design really is cool for watching the fire, but you also get great flames out the top.
The battery seems great too. I'm still on the original charge after about 12 hours of use. Mostly on low, but definitely some turbo in there too (just for fun).
I haven't cooked with it yet, but I want to soon.
In my experience so far, the firepit works best with smallish split pieces of wood and does require maintenance, just like any other campfire. But it makes having a fire fun and easy and I hope to continue using it for a long time.

Real portable grill-cum-firepit that WORKS!!!

I have purchased over a dozen grills - most them to make my camping grilling experience better. None, really none, have met all the requirements. I use a big green egg as my smoker/grill and so I think I know a bit about this subject. I found this grill is the last one I will ever purchase. Used it three times so far and here is what I found:
1. First grilling is a high temperature cooking unlike smoking or steaming. With the huge amount of oxygen being blown into the firepit, this gets hot and fast!
2. I use a chimney to get my charcoal or briquettes burn to the grill ready stage and then transfer to the grill. In this firepit, the charcoal can be lit in the firepit, thus eliminating the need to carry a chimney!
3. At the campground, few of the chord wood we purchased wouldn’t burn fully in the campground fire ring. Transferred it to this firepit, it burned to ash fully!
4. Grilled for two hours and then used it as a firepit with wood for four hours and battery level was still good for 2-3 days more. Was easy to solar charge during the day.
5. Designed very well. Folds very compact and doesn’t occupy much space in the car. No rattling noise while driving which can drive me nuts!
6. I work for a company that design and builds complex eletro-mechanical machines. I received the unit at work and it received appreciations from both the mechanical and manufacturing engineers!
Congratulations to the engineering, manufacturing and supplier engineering team at Biolite!

Great grilling - wood or charcoal

I got mine via Kickstarter so I have had it since mid-June and used it probably 6 times. The fan makes it SUPER-easy to get a fire going - it's like using a blowtorch to light wood or charcoal! The fan is reasonably quiet at cooking speeds, only loud at highest setting. I've used it mostly for grilling, where it shines.
Everything is well-thought-out and well-made. For example, the top rack slides off to one side, so you can baste your food without getting too hot, but the rack has a stopper so it doesn't fall off. The fan lasts a long time and the phone app makes it easy to turn off remotely. The solar/rain cover works well to charge it in full sun. The legs fold up nicely and the battery connects well. I can even use the fan to dry my dog in our tent! :-)
My only wish would be that it was easier to lower the inner wood rack from "charcoal" vs "wood" mode; it's a bit tricky. Plus I wish the exit door for the ashes was a little easier to put back in place.

super awesome and fun

I was exited to get an easy to transport and use fire pit for our pergola and for camping.
This is what I found.
Pros:
1. It starts much easier than any traditional fire. I use paper and logs, no kindling
2. When your done with cooking, telling stories etc around a fire you want it to just shut off like anything else in our modern world. This one burns fast enough it leaves mostly ash and lets you move on to other things faster than conventional fires.
3. Easy to clean, and transport, and can be used on grass. (grass use not recommended by manufacturer, but I do it often.)
4. A smokeless, clean clothes fire is amazing!!!!
5. Cooking on it is easy and fun. I even have put a dutch oven on the top and cooked with it.
6. The carrying handles make it easy to move, even during use.
7. Between our family camping use, pergola parties, and our teenagers this unit gets a ton of use. Its just smart and easy.
Cons:
1. If it was just a little longer it would accommodate more common cut wood.
2. According to the web site, my timing of purchase should have included the handy carry case w solar, but it didn't.
3. The handles it came with were missing 2 of 4 of the screws and washers.
This is what I found.
