[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Discovery model motor engine kit came in 140 pieces. It took my son and I roughly three days to assemble. It was challenging but we had so much fun doing it. Works like a real engine when you're done and how proud my son felt finishing it was an irreplaceable moment. Lots of small parts recommended for eight years plus.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As much as I love Discovery toys, this one I have to say needs better design on some materials. We were building it as a family and one thing we immediately noticed were the screws that came with it. For one, they were too small. Even an 8 yr old kid's fingers will find it still to be too small. Then the screw head was easily worn even when using the driver that came with the package. Two, the parts were so little and difficult to build. I do not know if it was designed to mimic the real engine but if it were, I am impress on how much thought and energy was put into it to really make it like the real one. My complaint would be when you are on your way to do the next step and you are not careful, you could lose some parts inside the case and then you have to disassemble again and restart. It wouldn't be a problem if the screw heads weren't worn off and will be easy to unscrew. example, we were doing step 11 but the Timing Cam on the Long shift got loosen and were off so I had to redo it but I cannot now because I cannot unscrew it. So that will delay the assembling process. This was a fun toy to build though and I bet if we didn't encounter these challenges, it would be a nice toy replica of a real engine.

Very difficult to get right

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I did this with my 8 year old and 5 year old. It was very difficult. Our first attempt we got to almost the last step and realized we had put the first two pieces together in the wrong orientation. I then took over, took it apart completely and did it all by myself. And even then it didn’t work properly. Very disappointing to put that much effort and then fail. I am actually very good at putting toys and gadgets together so this was very surprising. It definitely requires adult help and is likely better for 10/12 year olds.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This model engine kit is super cool! It takes time and patience but the end result is awesome. The directions are very detailed and helpful. It is just like a real engine. The lights that plug in to the side light up the exact way that an engine normally fires in. Definitely a very fun family project but I don't suggest it for anyone under the age of at least 10.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this and my kids love it. My husband put it together to show the kids how to do it. The kids get a kick out of the spark plugs lighting up and to see the belt turn and fan blades spin. This is a really good tool to teach young ones about motors.

An Amazing Educational Toy!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This kids model engine kit is amazing. The Engine has to be put together piece by piece teaching kids all the pieces that goes into building an entire engine. My son absolutely loved helping put it together. Once it is all together it looks just as a real engine would look and once you plug the lights and the other wire into the battery pack the engine comes to life and shows kids how the inside of the engine works once a car is started. I highly recommend this Engine Model Kit.

Hours of Frustration
on April 26, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This toy Model Engine kit could have been so much fun to build, but because of shoddy screws and a few poorly explained steps, this really fell short. Your kid will not be able to build this, YOU will hardly be able to build this. The instructions start off really simple and easy to understand. Each part is labled by a letter and a number. It really helps you understand whether or not you have the right part. So my son and I began to build the engine together. The trouble with this kit is the screws, and there are a TON of them. They are made from the softest metal and nothing you do will keep you from stripping these screws. As you strip them, it will take more and more effort to screw them in. The other big issue is when you assemble the rocker arms and place them on the head. They need to go over the top of the valve stems, but in the picture it shows them beneath them, and that causes the engine to not work correctly. Three hours of frustration and a blister later, I finally had it all put together. It was a lot of pain and frustration for little reward. I dont recommend this unless they change the screws. Could be a lot of fun, but in it's current state, it is only a massive headache!
