About eighteen months ago I purchased a kit of four WiFi 1080P Outdoor Security cameras and installed them at my mothers house. They gave great service and performed well.
On the sixteenth of May this year, I updated all four cameras as I usually do when the Safe by Swann app shows that they need new firmware. This resulted in the complete failure of all four cameras.
After driving for nearly an hour to get to my mothers house, I rebooted all the cameras but none of them came up on-line.
I tried a reset to factory default which initially appeared promising but was unable to pair any of the cameras again. I gave up for that day as I had run out of ideas on how to resolve the issue, and drove back home again.
I searched the internet and found a number of other Swann customers were also experiencing the same issue, so I telephoned your support line for some help. After running through everything I had done, the support said that I should try unpairing the cameras from the Safe by Swann app and try again.
The next day I drove back to my mothers and un-paired the cameras in the software and tried to pair them again, but to no avail. So I called support again as this time I was on-site with the cameras.
The support walked me through the exact same process again, and got exactly the same result, no cameras working. The support took my contact details and said I should wait for engineering to come up with a fix and they would email me.
I waited.
On the 24th of May I could wait no longer (more on why later) so purchased TWO MORE WiFi 1080P Outdoor Security Cameras on-line from your website, so that we would have at least coverage of mums front and back doors. A few days later the new cameras arrived so I drove back to mums house and replaced one camera at the front door, and one at the back door. I set the cameras up, and paired them with the Safe by Swann app. All was ok.
On the 5th June I received an email from Swann regarding a “Compulsory App Change” and that the Safe by Swann app would no longer work after the end of June.
As I had to go to mums house today (11th June) to take her to the Doctors, I thought I would carry out the update after her appointment, which I did. The update seemed to go well, and both of the new cameras appeared in the new Swann Security App, so I returned home.
Once back home I started to find my way around the new app, and discovered that the cameras were not uploading images to the cloud, but were indeed capturing videos to local storage but without sound, and were jumpy and choppy. I looked at your FAQ page for the transition to find that I should now do a reboot of the cameras and that should allow them to start uploading videos to the cloud.
I rebooted ONE camera, and I now have NO CONNECTION to the camera any more! So no live video, no recordings, and no way of rebooting again unless I drive back down to mums house. Although to be fair the camera did upload all of it’s saved videos to the cloud before quitting.
So to recap, I now own SIX cameras. Of which only ONE is connected and giving me live images, and some very choppy and jumpy recordings to local storage.
My mother is an 83 year old lady living on her own.
She has Alzheimer’s and is prone to wandering off occasionally and getting lost. This is why we NEED the cameras, so that we can contact one of her neighbours if she wanders so they can go and retrieve her before she gets into any harm. These are not simply security cameras that we can do without, they are a lifeline for mum to be able to be independent and remain in her own home.
I contacted Swann Technical Support with all this information again seven days ago, and have heard nothing back since.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Do not buy

Absolutely shocking. I brought 3 of these cameras and they are terrible - so much so that I’ve decided to buy 3 cameras of a different brand. The cameras are constantly offline - what’s the point in me having cameras if they don’t work half of the time? Support isn’t very helpful, Live view is terrible, doesent record most of the detections, app is poor keeps freezing / error loading playbacks. Don’t waste your money by buying these, buy another brand!!!!

Great value for money with excellent quality

We bought this camera earlier this year when going for holidays to protect our home. It was easy to setup and we are quite happy with results. It proved its worth when someone try to enter our house and we were able to alert our friend to check things while we were away on the other side of the world. We highly recommend this camera.

Junk after firm ware update

Camera good app disappointing

I purchased this as I was told they are good first month or so it was good but then a compulsory app change has never worked properly since support try to help but can’t get it to work don’t recommend until software is sorted
