No Pan. Quality poor.

Cameras can only be mounted horizontally, on a ceiling for example. Mounting vertically on an outside wall next to a front door for example, the cameras only tilt up and down, not pan left and right so cannot be pointed towards the front door. Even though the instructions say they can, there is no facility for them to physically pan. They can be twisted, but this results in the lens twisting diagonally and the video feed reflects this and results in having to review footage with your head to one side! Also the video quality is poor. At full resolution, not even the number plate on the driveway could be read clearly.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear about the issues you experienced when installing our Swann 8 Channel 1080P DVR Kit. This item will have 3 different pivot points that will allow for the camera to be adjusted to best fit your security needs.
1. Loosen the screw (use a Phillips head screwdriver) to adjust the camera’s orientation. This enables you to rotate the camera so no matter what direction it is facing, your images will be the right way up. Tighten the screw to secure in place.
2. Loosen the screw to tilt the camera up and down. Tighten the screw to secure in place.
3. To pan the camera left and right, loosen the locking ring counter-clockwise and position accordingly. Tighten clockwise to secure in place.
If your subjects are at a distance, you may want to consider a higher resolution system which will allow for a more clear image when digitally zooming in.

Good quality and price

While I haven’t permanently installed all 4 cameras, I setup 2 inside pointing out windows. Video quality is great even at night. Setup was a breeze although I’ve only used my iPhone with it and not my Windows pc as of yet. While the mobile app has basic functions, it could use improvements and more functionality. I’d recommend this system. 4 stars, not 5 due to mobile app.
Easy to set up. Installation was easy, picture quality very good. Happy with my choice.

Our Swann security system was easy to install and easy to use. I installed the system myself with no issues. Shipping from Swann was quick (within 3-5 business days). I'm still learning how to use some of the features on the app but for viewing live video the app is very good.

First night I did a mock setup with wires running from the DVR unit (sitting next to the wifi router in our bedroom) under the rug to the front window, taped the camera to the blinds pointing outside (only worked in the pouch light otherwise I got an infrared reflection off the glass) and a second camera ran the wire along the wall through the kitchen pointing out the back door window same as the front. Worked great for a couple days till I had a day off to do a more permanent installation. Here are some tips: Plan on mounting the DVR away from bedrooms as it does make a little noise as it runs, like a fan or harddrive revving up. I mounted the DVR to the wall behind the drawers in the hall closet. This way its hidden from intruders and any sounds from DVR are muffled. To do this I purchased 25' HDMI cable and CAT 6 cable that I ran from the closet under the house and back up to the TV and Router. Also i had a wireless mouse installed on the DVR that i use from the livingroom couch and view on the big screen. Cameras were easily mounted under the roof eves and the wires easily fished through the attic vents in the eves then ran down through the closet to the DVR. I had a receptical in the attic that I used to power each camera. Love the whole system so much the next day added on two more cameras 6 total w/room for 2 more some other day. The home system works great on the couch with my wireless mouse, crystal clear images, tones of settings and options to program. The app on my phone is great with remote viewing and push notifications when the PIR sensor detects motion. With the push notifications I don't need to view the cam I can easily tell if someone is coming or going to the house by the order in which the cameras send notifications. The app is not perfect a bit glitchy could have to do with my cell/wifi service depending on my location. A couple days ago push notifications stopped working then I got home and finally received a days worth of notifications in 5 seconds (ding,ding,ding,ding,ding,ect.). Still working on getting the push notifications to work again. Also the DVR wont take my email address keeps saying username or password is incorrect? Still for the price this is a great system and after a recent break into our house I definitely feel much safer for my whole family.
After cameras install I am very satisfied with the results inside and outside!!!! They have very sharp and clear videos!!! This is my second set of cameras and dvr's.
