Very easy to install but setup in the menu system could be a tad easier. There is a lot of videos on YouTube that help a lot. Once setup very easy to use. Quality of picture is amazing.

installed the 4 channel version of this, in my friends parents property a year ago. Was so impressed with it, had to get the 8 channel for myself. The thermal sensing capabilities is what sold me on the system. I'm 1 happy camper.

I bought this for extra security and it does the job but as I'm not very technical I actually fitted it myself but I'm still getting to grips with all the features as there are lots for the price I paid.

Easy to install and use

I bought this system online as a refurbished unit, saving a lot of money in the process. It was a no brainer as the warranty was the same as if buying new. It arrived in perfect condition and I couldn’t note any defects or scratches etc. I installed the system myself (I’m not an electrician or handy-man by any means) and found it quite easy. I really enjoyed the project. It runs through the main tv in my lounge room which is wall mounted and is accessed on ’HDMI 4’. The hard drive unit sits on top of my surround sound receiver. The one (very minor) complaint I have is that there is a blue flashing light on the front and it runs continuously. If the lounge room is dark, the blue light acts as a strobe light. A small piece of electrical tape would fix it though. The 1080p quality is very good and clear. If a car is passing by at speed in the dark, it can be difficult to make out its make and model as the infrared shows the picture in black and white and the speed of the car can be seen as more of a blur. Other than that, all images both in daylight and infrared are clear and number plates can be made out to some extent. I have 6 cameras installed with a 1TB HD. One of the cameras is continuously recording 24/7 and the others are all set to record at the highest sensitivity (ensuring nothing is missed). This gives me about 10 days of recording before it starts to overwrite the older material. If I had my time again I’d consider a 2TB HD to allow for another camera on continuous and to give myself a little more time before it overwrites. I use the app to live watch at times but haven’t yet played with notifications or setting up hot spots (say over a valuable object) to ensure I’m made aware if there is movement nearby. I plan on using these features when I travel. No complaints so far - I’m chuffed with the system and it has had no issues since install (about 90 days ago).

poor picture quality, poor app interface, very poor.

reading the sales pitch its states that you will be able to see faces and read number plates from the clear images. This is not true in the slightest. My car is parked approx 8m away and even in clear light, people are unable to read back the letters on the plate.
the cameras are completely useless other than 'seeing whats outside'!!
The user interface in the app does not allow synchronised playback of mutliple cameras or if it does i cannot find how to apply it.
if i hadnt installed the cables in the cavity walls it would have been returned to store as not fit for purpose.
To say I am disappointed by the set is an understatement and even more annoyed that to get a picture that might be of some use i will have to gamble on another Swann product. The gamble being if it does as they say and also if it works with my DVR, which my father has found with his system, it has been outdated meaning that any new type of camera will not work due to its age (5~6 years)
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for reaching out to us with your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your most recent experience with our Swann 8 Channel $ Camera DVR System. Based on the information provided, it is possible that the recorder is preset to record at a lower resolution than capable. This can be adjusted within the recorder. If you are having issues when remotely accessing your unit, we would recommend switching to the mainstream footage. This will improve the resolution but may delay playback times. Substream footage will allow for fast loading times but will reduce the resolution of the image.

At this time playback of multiple channels at the same time is not available within the Swann Security application. We hope to integrate more features into the application with its further development.

Owned system now for 2yrs, unfortunately car broken into just out of front yard at 523am unable to identify person. Have added a IR Illumunation light that plugs direct to camera power. Will be adding another next week.
