Big Improvement

We had to replace an older system (not Swann) when the DVR failed. This a big step up. The viewing angle is much wider, the night vision is better, and we were really attracted to the thermal sensing feature as our other system would record a lot of unnecessary movement (trees etc.) The detail is great, it looks like a Blu-ray DVD when viewed on a 4K screen. The ability to view online with the app is also made much easier,. Make sure you choose a strong password for the system and change it every so often as always. This DVR looks sturdy, but mounting it to the wall is possible to prevent things from being set on top of it. Compatibility is a plus with Swann products- might be able to reuse our better cameras to expand the surveillance even more.

Best investment I have ever made

I bought the dvr-4575 4 camera system 04/01/2018 . I installed it myself it was a very easy install the only problem I ran into was the email notification setup the instructions was off but I figured it out . This system is very easy to use and the picture quality is unbelievable and with the home safe app I can keep an eye on my property where ever I go . Even the sheriffs deputies was impressed with the video quality. After viewing the surveillance footage with sheriffs deputies my brother in-law went out bought and installed the same dvr system . This system is worth ever dollar.

Failing already due to not fit for purpose hard drive

Like Animal House my unit is failing already after less than 3 months. The hard drive was making a noise so I undid the box and found that the hard drive installed is not surveillance rated (as per Swanns recommendations in the manual!) and is therefore not fit for purpose.
Also, the Android software leaves a lot to be desired.

Swann SWDVK-854804v - Swann 8 Channel Security System: 1080p Full HD DVR-4580 with 1TB HDD & 4 x 1080p Thermal Sensing Cameras

I was unsure due to bad reviews but got this system and fitted last weekend. Absolutely no issues installing and set up was quick and easy. Stream on 4g works well on iPhone and so far have no complaints to mention. We also used a TP Link Powerline to connect to the router opposed to running cables to different part of house and again it has worked well.
Good quality system and works well all round!

Excellent Image Quality

I purchased this security camera because my daughters 2 cars were broken into and one of them crashed and written off. A neighbour on the corner caught this whole event on camera and was apprehended and jailed.
With the quality of the images I am sure if anyone broke into my yard or house during the day you would have no problem recognising the person.
The night vision IR you have a 50/50 chance of a recognition
Overall this day and age I think it was wise to purchase and install a security system with the increase of house burglary.
There are 2 things which I found could be improved
1/ Label the ends on the cables i.e. DVR -CAMERA ,I did look before installation but I still managed to turn one around.
2/ Longer Mouse Cable as you want to hide the DVR in a inconspicuous position not on display.
With the quality of the images I am sure if anyone broke into my yard or house during the day you would have no problem recognising the person.

System seems to work well but the software could use some improvement

Installed the DVR8-4580V system today. The physical installation went well as did the connecting it to the network. Working through how to get the system to handle events, communicate with my iPhone and windows system was not quite as plug and play. The windows system was a nightmare and still not totally there. The fact that they only support IE in windows and require a plug in even for that to work was not what I expected in a modern web world. Still more to do but hopefully this review will suffice for the "golden ticket" requirement for the extended warrenty.

Decent Security Cam System

Replaced an older Swann Security Cam System with this one. Had to get used to the "fisheye" lens but works fine with some cam adjustments and the picture quality is better. I was disappointed with no prerecording options like my old less expensive unit had with multiple prerecord time adjustment choices. This one has a "Prerecord" button in its menu but doesn't appear to do anything as far as doing any prerecording.
