Great performance

I bought this about a year ago. At first There were some bugs and the lines weren’t straight at all. But after the last update, It’s perfect. The lines are straight, writing became easier, and no more bugs and long refreshing. The PC app is really fine, but the android/ios app is not very well designed. I really recommend it. And battery could be better but it is not really bad(noting I use the device around 9 hours daily.

Great Features! Great for Grad Students!

I absolutely adore this device. I'm a grad student I find this device to be invaluable. It is everything I've been looking for for years. I absolutely hate reading papers on computer screen. Printing out papers is wasteful and difficult to organize. It is also as big as a normal sheet of paper which is also great as I have difficulty reading fine print (as some e-readers simply shrink the pdf). I was slightly concerned that I might buy it and never use it as has been the case with other things I've bought but I've used it everyday.
Some people here were upset about the syncing but it isn't that bad actually. It's not too much extra work. The only thing I really prefer that they had was integration with Zotero and/or Mendeley so that either can rename PDFs within the device and annotations could appear on the computer. That way I don't have to spend as much time managing essentially two file systems. Other than that, this works great. Also if you are upset about the tips wearing down, you shouldn't. They were designed to and helps give you that real "pencil" feel. The tips aren't horrendously expensive and some of the tip types wear more/less than others.

Can we use the DPT as a second monitor?

I have the S1, and while it is useful, I have gone back to an iPad Pro because I cannot use the S1 as a second screen. Please look into adding this function. Thanks.

Best PORTABLE electronic WRITING device
on June 30, 2017

I have had writing devices ranging from Wacom Cintiq Companion (earlier version of MobileStudio Pro) which I do *not* consider as "portable" (clumsy to bring from meeting to meeting or to write on a subway), MS Surface Pro (Wacom based), MS Surface (N-trig), iPad Pro and this Sony product is so far the best WRITING experience. Note that this is for note-taking only and not for drawing with color, DIRECT copy and paste from other apps, etc which obviously this product doesn't feature. This is a WRITING a device and not even a tablet like iPad.
The paper like surface is excellent. There is lag/latency which can be annoyed it and depending on your writing style and speed, with my style and speed it registers 87% of the strokes which means every so often the device fails to register. I guess this is more of the limitation of E-Ink than the processing power, and any E-Ink product will encounter it. I guess when you are willing to get used to it or adjust (including recalibrate so often) it will work.
I believe it will get better over the years with the technology. So it depends... if you want a *perfect* paper-like experience, either you opt for MobilePro (which is rather clumsy/I do not consider it as "portable"), wait for several years or this product helps me for now. You just bring it like a folder (it's very light), low profile/wouldn't attract much attention that might distract you and I must admit I want a smaller version of it; but I guess this product is intended to work more with legal size documents.

Stunning device

Very lightweight and comfortable to hold. I have it sync with Mendeley for scientific papers, and Dropbox for book-PDFs etc. Perfect. Crisp and high-res screen is a joy to read. I printed a contract to this device, signed it with the stylus, and synced back, to email the signed contract: flawless. Note-taking works great as well.
Sure, it needs some iterative improvements, but I think Sony is admirably bold to put out a product like this. Ever tried to read a 100-page PDF on your iPad or laptop? No thanks. It's a niche-product, but it serves its niche very well.

The future paper (not TV) for human civilization

When we finally realize the harm caused by long-term exposure to direct electromagnetic radiation to our eyes, we will know this is the solution to our future screen. Save your kids eyes as soon as possible.

The best paper notepad replacement!

I first have to admit i've been working with digital paper since the early versions so i am a fan. I am a avid note taker, i seem to recall more if i write down. i have not been able to use my computer or ipad for this in a way that feels natural. Sony Digital Paper with its legal pad size is perfect and the pen/pencil to paper experience is seamlessly transferred to a digital medium. the advantage for me was a very simular notetaking experience with digital sync to my computer. no more drawers full of paper notepads. While I mostly use for notes, a secondary advantage is 'printing' any paper documents directly to the SDP to eliminate carrying around paper, and having the ability to markup/highlight while reviewing in full page form like a paper print out.
