Will not connect to any device with any connection. Have tried: Android phone, PC, Mac, Iphone, using Wifi, USB cord, bluetooth, NFC. This is less useful than a piece of paper, period.

need drivers for Linux OS

We are graduate students and professors. There are 13 members in our lab and we ordered your device (all of us). We are disappointed to know Sony currently doesn't support Linux OS. We would really appreciate if SONY supports Linux OS as well. With classes starting from August, 2020....we really hope SONY considers our request and do the needful. Especially we want to screen share during the Zoom meetings so the members can see what we are writing on our digital paper. Besides this issue, the product is great and we liked using it. But it is of no use to us, if this issue is not fixed/addressed by SONY.

After about 2 years of use, here are my thoughts

The digital paper has become a part of my daily life for work and school, 2nd in use only to my smartphone or laptop. I am in general quite pleased with it, and the software updates that have added things like table of contents and undo support are good as well. The purpose of this review is mostly to suggest ways to improve it to the engineering team at Sony, who I assume is working on a DPT-RP2 or something.
I'll start with what I think would not be a good idea to change.
1st: I know the 1st version of the digital paper had different software with a web browser built-in. I'm very glad that was removed in the DPT-RP1, because part of the reason I like this product so much is that it is focused on doing what it does and I can use it without it presenting any distractions. I would like that to continue.
2nd: while I do somewhat regularly download PDF scans of old books from Internet Archive and they can be quite slow in page-turning (the files are high-quality scans and often 50mb or so), I would not want the processing power of the tablet to increase if that meant a shorter battery life compared to what it is now. I also wouldn't want the tablet to become much thicker, though a little bit more wouldn't be bad. The ideal would obviously be to be able to increase processing power and battery life in tandem while keeping the thinness the same, which I recognise is difficult. I just wouldn't want unbalanced improvement.

Or, even better, I would like the system to not be locked down in terms of the file system, meaning that I could plug it in to my computer and browse it like a flash drive. I don't expect it to support file types other than PDF, and actually I wouldn't want it to. But it's a bit silly to require a program to be installed when it should clearly be possible to just use the OS's directory/file browsing program.
2nd: the USB interface should be upgraded to type C, to both increase file transfer speed and to have a more standardised interface in terms of being able to cable swap.
3rd: I know colour e-ink displays are hard, so I won't say anything about that. But more colour options for highlighting or writing would be good. Green & yellow, for instance. Those should be addressable by a software update, so no need to wait for the next version of the tablet to be release-ready to add those in.
4th: It would be quite handy to have 2 eraser modes in the software. 1 as it currently is, and a 2nd which doesn't erase the whole pen stroke, but only the part touched by the eraser.
5th: the NFC capabilities of the tablet don't seem to support the Yubikey 5. This is a minor point to me, but would be cool to have supported for security as a way to unlock instead of a password.
6th: The ability to add a custom symbol to search for in a text, like a square or cross.
7th: When a file is copied from the tablet to the computer, it should keep the date of last modification on the tablet rather than say it was last modified at the time you copied it. This ties in with the 1st point actually, since having a more open file system would probably fix this.

In terms of things I really like, the zoom capabilities are amazing. People are always impressed when I show them that, and as an electrical engineering major, it's very handy for zooming in on tiny circuit diagrams, for example. I also like being able to see all annotations for a given document in one place. And being able to see 2 documents side-by-side is excellent when I have a notes file open next to a textbook file. I'm glad I can cut and paste writing as well.
My actual rating would be 4.5 stars, but it seems this review form doesn't support that so I'll write it here. In conclusion, thank you for making something excellent, and I hope you will take into account the ideas I've written as you (hopefully) work on the next iteration of this product.

Does not work on a recent Mac, iPhone, or iPAD.

The iOS mobile app does not work for the recent iOS version 13.5.1 - in fact it has not worked for about a year now.
The support page says there is no current desktop app for any recent version of Mac OSX (or Windows).
So overall there is no way to get any documents onto or off my DPT-CP1. It worked fine for 12 months, but last 6 months not useable for accessing new files!!??

Hi ClaudeA, Thank you for sharing your feedback. As of the moment, we don't have information about an upcoming update with regards to supported software for the latest macOS version. Currently, the Digital Paper app is available to:

As a workaround, if you can get a hold of a Windows PC, the Digital Paper App supports the latest Windows 10 (64 bit) Windows 10 Home, and Windows 10 Pro to transfer your documents.

Good for text/forms, graphs/diagrams hsrd to read

I love using this to take notes, read papwes and fill out forms but half of the papers I read have diagrams/charts/tables that are hard to read or can't be read owing to the low pixel density, ~226 ppi vs ~350-500 expected.
Charging the stylus is a but annoying too and the latency isn't great but relatively minor concerns for me vs resolution and lack of Google drive e integration.

Great Features! Great for Grad Students!

I absolutely adore this device. I'm a grad student I find this device to be invaluable. It is everything I've been looking for for years. I absolutely hate reading papers on computer screen. Printing out papers is wasteful and difficult to organize. It is also as big as a normal sheet of paper which is also great as I have difficulty reading fine print (as some e-readers simply shrink the pdf). I was slightly concerned that I might buy it and never use it as has been the case with other things I've bought but I've used it everyday.
Some people here were upset about the syncing but it isn't that bad actually. It's not too much extra work. The only thing I really prefer that they had was integration with Zotero and/or Mendeley so that either can rename PDFs within the device and annotations could appear on the computer. That way I don't have to spend as much time managing essentially two file systems. Other than that, this works great. Also if you are upset about the tips wearing down, you shouldn't. They were designed to and helps give you that real "pencil" feel. The tips aren't horrendously expensive and some of the tip types wear more/less than others.
I would recommend this to a friend!

It’s hard to make a case to buy this over the lower priced 10.2” ipad that cost less and does so much more. Sorry, Sony, but this product is ten years too late.
