The specification for this unit says max CFM is 430 but the product details say it has a 610 CFM blower. I've been arguing with my installer about the correct duct sizing. Is it 8" for 430 max or 12" for 10 max? Also concerned about noise. Can the blower be modified to a lower max after installation if too loud? Do most users just run at a lower speed from the user controls?

We're happy to provide some clarification on the CFM rating. The maximum CFM for this unit is 430. You can operate the unit with 4 speeds (Low, Medium, High, Boost). The maximum equivalent duct length for 100 CFM is 150 foot for vent hood. This hood requires 8” ducting to perform optimally.
For more information, we recommend referring to installation manual at this link here: https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--jyxQHL3n--/rirlljcnvejmwbpltslo.pdf?_ga=2.255787912.1268629833.1729515821-173084733.1722015086
If you are concerned about the noise we suggest taking a look at page 17 of the manual linked above.
Hood insert is wonderful. inserting the baffle metal filters and grease pan instructions not so good. Could do better with this and wifi connection instructions.
The unit has plenty of draw but the sound is ridiculously loud for a residential kitchen. I wish i had better advise bore having my custom hood made.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It’s unexpected to hear that your new vent is much louder than anticipated. We want to help. The most common cause for loud or abnormal airflow noise is improperly sized ducting. This hood requires 8” ducting to perform optimally. You can find more information on page 17 of your use and care manual, linked below.
If your unit is installed properly using the correct ducting, we suggest having it diagnosed by a qualified technician. You can schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or by going to https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm.
