Garmin Approach Z80

Prior to my purchase, I read quite a few reviews complaining about the battery life on the Z80. However, after doing tons of research I decided to purchase one and find out for myself. I have played two rounds so far and absolutely love this thing. I’ve used the playslike and pin pointer features and they are amazing and easy to access. I checked the battery life after the first round and still had 88% left. I charged it and used it the second time and had 83% left after that round. On the second round, I did use the Z80 much more utilizing the playslike and pin pointer during that round, which only used 5% more of the battery life. While I haven’t tested it yet for 36 holes, I would be surprised if the second round would use 83% or 88% of the remaining battery life.
I hope this helps those that were in the same boat I was before making my decision. Yes, it’s expensive but well worth it.

Great information BUT unacceptable battery life

I have been using the Approach Z80 for 6 weeks. I LOVE the features. Having the hole layout with GPS distances from where I'm standing to various hazards and traps as well as distances to the front and back of the green to augment the super accurate laser range finding to the flag is the ultimate. BUT - the battery has been going out after 6 holes or 8 holes. When I first bought it, I was able to finish an 18 hole round, but after that it won't make it past the front nine without running out of battery. I understand the standby feature - battery saver - recently received two software updates that are suppose to improve battery life. I just installed both updates. I will comment after playing my next round in a few days. I gave the Z80 four stars because of the battery issues. If that problem can be fixed it will be a 5 star device. If not, I'm returning it.

Like the look

Had it for 2 weeks now and easy to use. The only thing I don’t like is the case, it’s a little tight wish it was a little bigger to get in & out. Other then that it fine.

Everything but a battery.

Great product, but definitely should have had a replaceable battery, OR should be operable when charging. I need to charge it after every round.

Keeps freezing

I bought this unit 2 months ago and I love the display and features, it is very accurate. The only disappointing thing is that nearly once a round the unit freezes. I have to hold the power button down to restart it again. Not sure if its a software issue or not, i have updated the software, but it still occurs. I have seen by searching online this has happened to others also

Great ideas, very poor implementation

Very poor image quaIity, because use low resolution camera technology. Big problems to lock to flag reliable. Unit need/will restart couple times thru round, which is inconvenient as it takes around one minute every time. I bought my first unit when it was released. It worked poorly on all areas and was send to service after 1 month. New unit came one month after sending it to service. After all this waiting, the new unit was broken when I open the box. Third unit came 2 weeks ago, so 4 months waiting after first unit to have somehow working unit.

A let-down with poor software quality

Have had Issues with my new Z80 going into standby and never woke up. Ruined my golf games. Researched the web and it was software issue (version 2.80 needed). However, Garmin Express doesnt have this version to offer for download... quite disappointing...
