Has great features, biggest complaint battery capacity. Not sure if it would work for 36 holes.

Hi Mach92, Thanks for the review. If you feel like you aren't getting close to the 15 hours of battery life the device is capable of getting, it could be software related. I would suggest updating the software to ensure the device is performing at an optimal level. A Strong Device

This product is an excellence marriage between a GPS and a Rangefinder, but it takes patience to pick up a few dimensions of the product.
The rangefinder: it is accurate, amazingly so, and because of that from time to time it can pick up on a tree behind the flagstick. After a few rounds I became used to it and became much better at gaining an accurate reading on the first try.
The GPS: I have used this device in both Canada and the U.S. thus far, and I've been surprised at how quickly it figures out where it is. I'll be playing with it in Thailand this Christmas, so that will be another test of how quickly it picks up the satellite.
The features: the extra few features the device packs are great, and works well. I played some links courses this summer, and the flagfinder feature was very nice.
One quirk: it is hard to wake the device at times from sleep mode. This is coupled with the fact that the blue indicator light on the rear of the device is hard to see in sunlight, and with sunglasses on. The result is that, for the first few times I had trouble waking the device, I thought the battery had died. If the device doesn't wake up on the first try, hold as instructed by the manual, but then dip it down to your waist and bring it back up. That should wake the device up. I hope a future update from Garmin fixes this, because the product is getting a bad rep.
All in all, I look forward to using the device for years to come.

Battery life is too short. I fully charged the battery two days before my golf outing. Turned it off after charging. The unit quit and out of battery after 9 holes the day if the outing. The distance lock is way to slow compared to Bushnell, which I am going back to. Very disappointing for such an expensive unit. This unit is Ebay bound.

Best of both worlds Laser/GPS with color picture of hole being played when viewing through eyepiece. Extremely accurate, easy to use, and a must have for the avid golfer.

Could be the BEST GPS / Rangefinder on the market!

I have had this device about 2 weeks now. I was shooting in the mid 80’s using my Garmin Approach G8. Since I purchased the Z80 I have won the Club Championship and have 4 scores in the 70’s. It is because this device is so accurate that I can take dead aim at the flag. My only gripe is that my Z80 gets locked up in the stand by mode. When it locks up it takes about 5 minuets to get the device back to the current hole. I am lucky I did not get rid of my G8 when this happens. I have concerns that this issue of the Z80 locks up in the stand by mode that it could be a bigger issue with the device. I play golf every day and I need my equipment to perform as advertised. I have over 300 rounds played on my Garmin Approach G8 and it has never failed me but I needed a device that could detect the pin location without a flag position chart. So Garmin get the issue solved with the stand by mode fixed or replace my current Z80. Like I said I play every day and I play with different members every day so there is a HUGE potential sales for the Z80 if it performs as advertised. I brag about the accuracy of the Z80 and there is a huge audience of potential buyers at my golf club.

I have used the z80 for two months now and are satisfied. The main use case is to use the orgement reality feature with the distance and at the same time see what’s in front of you graficly via the map in the view

Great idea, unrealistic execution

I thought this would be the do all end all for ranging but was disapointed. The z80 takes way too long to boot, and way too long to find or range a target. Couple that with a pouch thats too tight and shuts the unit off at least twice during my first few holes, I was back to my Bushnell by the fifth hole. I tried again after reading the manual cover to cover, but it was more of the same, I brought mine back and went with another manufacturer's product.

I’ve had the Z80 for about a month & played about 12 rounds with it. An awesome addition to my bag. Really adds confidence, knowing exactly where you are, how far to hit the next shot & which direction to hit. The pinseeker feature is invaluable on blind approach shots. Kudos to Garmin for not adding features like scoring and phone connectivity. Keeps complexity down and prolongs battery life. A shot measuring feature would be a nice addition.
