The portion above the function keys heats too much when I'm in gaming mode. Is this normal?

Dell G5 Review

There isn't much to complain about with this system. The keyboard is nice but that will very from person to person. It took me a minute to get used to the keys being sunken in more than I'm used to. The overall specs are good too. This isn't the best gaming laptop of course but it plays all AAA titles on high to ultra high graphic settings at great frame-rates. The only three things I can complain about is that I got the model with 128gb SSD. Do not get this model. You are going to need more than 128gb SSD in 2018. However, this was my own decision and is not the fault of Dell. The screen isn't the best; it's good for gaming and web surfing and whatnot but if content creation is your thing you're gonna want (I believe) the G7 as it has a 4K option or you can just replace the screen yourself. The last thing I don't like is the hinge. Its a good hinge and its weight is distributed nicely but I'm not a fan of the single, middle hinge. It's overall a great system for people on a slight budget and can game like a champ. Oh and it has USB Type-C with Thunderbolt 3 and that is great for a notebook of this price-range.

Works good BUT

I love this laptop, it has helped me edit videos and a game and all kinds of stuff. The only down sides is that the rod in the back of the PC, where the screen flips up that broke. The little plastic case broke around the rod and then in turn makes the bottom of the PC open up when you flip the screen up. I would say it runs good but you will have to work on it.

Many laptops are powerful, but what makes this powerful laptop unique is the price point at which it's offered and some additional features that slightly set it apart. For one, the keyboard is really nice. I don't know if all models have backlit keys, but mine does. Also, the keys are just "clicky" enough so that they don't feel like cheap chiclet-style keys. Next, the cooling is powerful enough so that I don't feel like I have to worry about anything when I'm going through an intense session. And finally, I really enjoy the fact that it has good battery life. Of course it turns down the performance when on battery, but if you really want performance, just plug this thing in and it becomes a desktop-level powerhouse. The only disadvantage I can see to this product is that the screen is at 60 Hz, which means that when you get more than 60 fps, as is often the case, the screen doesn't refresh often enough to catch those extra frames. Overall great product with the expected performance and some nice touches offered at an incredible price point relative to the competition.

Most aspects met my expectations. A couple of problem areas: 1. The NVidia drivers have crashed several times, causing freezes of 2 seconds, 10 seconds or longer than I care to wait. 2. I'm really noticing how slow the secondary hard drive is. I guess I will eventually replace it with another SSD.

First time turning on computer, the microphone didn't work at all. The recommended RAM upgrade didn't post. It's powerful, I'm just not totally blown away by my overall experience with Dell.

Problem with networking card

The laptop worked fine except for the Intel AC wireless card. It quickly became unresponsive after using the PC. Disabling and re-enabling worked for a bit, until it threw an error 10. Then after some research, I found that resetting the BIOS to the factory settings would allow the wireless card to work again.
