Buggy at First

I have had this laptop since December 2018, upgraded the SSD from a 256 GB to a 512 GB Samsung SSD. It was taking a long time to start up and occasionally would get a blue screen. After doing some research online I uninstalled the McAfee software and that solved most of the problems. No more blue screens and starts up in about 10 seconds. Evidently the antivirus software that came with the laptop was causing the problems, I am just using the Windows 10 antivirus software and it is working great now.

The Dell G5 15, an all around beautiful machine.

The Dell G5 15 is a wonderful laptop that is easy and fun to use. I have had this laptop for a few weeks now and it runs every program that I have thrown at it buttery smooth without a single problem. Although the more graphics intense programs and games I run do heat up the exhaust vents making them almost hot to the touch, it also slightly warms the keyboard if I run them for long enough, I am impressed with this laptops ability to cool and vent the hot air away from the user with powerful fans. This laptop has everything and more than I have ever needed in a computer and with a competitive price point for the features is a wonderful laptop for anyone whether you are using it for school, work, or play.

Cooling and hardware are great, but the corners lose a star

I game heavily, and accidentally had both Fortnite and Overwatch open at the same time. The laptop sounded like a jet engine, but my hands were cool. However, the corners of the laptop are far too pointy, and is quite painful for my forearms.

poor plastic Parts used!

The system works great for itself.
But on the 2nd day I discovered a crack at the cheap plastic design of the cooling fan cover.
It looks as if the material had worked too hard at temperature differences between 60 and 95.
Also the frame of the display is in places too loose and rattles.
But my biggest problem will be to get the cooling fan cover as a spare part to fix it myself.

Great Laptop For the Price

This laptop is extremely quick. It produces amazing graphics with out lagging. When it is plugged in, the fans run slightly loud, but by the time I get into the game, I don't even notice them. When the laptop is not plugged in, I've noticed that the fans run fairly quiet to conserve battery. I've also had a game running, had vitural reality goggles running, Microsoft Word, and watching youtube videos all at once and the laptop had no problem keeping up. I love the black with red keys. It's very easy on the eyes at night. The only con that people might say is that the screen quality could be slightly better for that the reds are true to color unless you mess with some settings. Something that can be upgraded, though. For the price, I highly recommend this laptop. Especially because it has a thunderbolt usb-c and can purchase an eGPU for upgraded graphics.

Exactly What I Wanted
on August 16, 2018

This laptop is exactly what I wanted, a portable computer that can handle all of the games I like to play. Though it does get hot, that was expected. It definitely needs a lap desk to be used as a "lap"top while playing any graphics intensive games. It sounds like it's about to take off when I play 7 Days to Die on ultra settings, poor thing. Ah, but it can handle it. It may get hot, but it's not going to burn you. When unplugged, it lasts hours, even while playing. Everything is streamlined and beautiful. The keys and touchpad are intuitive. Drained my savings for this beauty, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Overall not bad for the price.

It is a pretty good gaming laptop for the money. The big perk it has against the other options at it price point is the Thunderbolt 3 port. The weakest points is the chassis design which is somewhat dated and limits update options and the screen which frankly is too dim and does not have the color precision for a 2018 laptop at almost any price point.
