Poorly designed ice-maker is a continual battle

I like everything about this fridge except the ice-maker. The ice maker has NEVER ONCE provided a nice glass full of cubed ice. A more accurate description would be a shaved ice maker. When selecting cubes, a bunch of shaved ice comes out with cubes every time. There is constant ice build-up under the ice container. It frequently jams with ice/frost and will not dispense. Upon consulting the owner’s manual, I see they recommend cleaning the ice maker every two weeks. Really?!?! Who would do this? Design a better fridge so your customers don’t have to waste their time cleaning the ice maker every two weeks.
If you can’t stand crushed/shaved ice watering down your drinks, you won’t be able to stand this fridge. If you don’t want to clean your ice maker every two weeks, you won’t like this fridge.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great so far...

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this a couple of weeks ago to replace an LG 3-door refrigerator with a bad compressor. Although the Whirlpool is about 1 cubic ft smaller, it surprisingly has much more usable space than the LG. The Whirlpool has very nice construction and seems to have very good build quality. It will also get very cold. Price was MUCH better than the LG.

Especially the freezer section. I love how the ice maker keeps up with our needs and the door shelves are deep and hold so much.
