Best set in years
on June 2, 2017

The title says it all. This is definitely one of the best sets in years possibly ever. The build is challenging yet fun and the end result is truly stunning. You can't comprehend how big it is until you start building it. I could go into great detail but there are other reveiws for that :P
If you can afford it and want it then get it.

Awesome set great price point

Best Lego set of the decade. Visually appealing, close to original source material. My 7yo helped build and we had a ball putting it together.
I think the classic space theme needs to be revived, especially if they built sets based on real life. Good history lesson and provides a good discussion point for kids.
Now to figure out how to build a launch platform.
So glad I went to get one on release day. They sold out quickly at my local.
Biggest bonus was the price wasn't rediculous like most Star wars or super heroes sets. Day 1 purchase at rrp. Haven't done that with any Lego set before.

My favourite set so far!

I have about 50 sets in all, and this was both the most expensive, and the largest (1969 bricks!).
This set is fabulous. It looks wonderful - and is a subject that I am interested in too, so that helps!
I was lucky enough to get one of the last ones of the initial batch in the Lego Store in Leicester Square, but have only just got around to building it - I had a day off, and this was a specific plan for part of it!
The instructions were easy to follow - a couple of areas where you just need to make sure that you look carefully, but if in doubt, a look at the next step would clarify.
It's an easy-enough build, it just takes a bit of time, as there are so many pieces.
And, as mentioned, it looks wonderful when built!
It's internal structure is such that it is very stable, and being able to have the different parts of the rocket separable is really neat :)
It stands at 1m tall - slightly taller than my granddaughter, slightly smaller than my youngest son :)
I would recommend this... get it while it's still available!

It's 1969 pieces, not "over 1,900 pieces"

And 1969 kinda matters. And is one of many absolutely delightful details in this set.
Coming from a NASA background, when I first heard about this set on Lego Ideas, I voted for it. When word came out that it was a go, I decided to buy it, and couldn't be happier I did. The amount of detail here is amazing -- making it by far my favorite Lego model.

Amazing set with a few minor flaws

This is a great set if you want a challenging build with a fantastic end result for a reasonable amount of money. There were some tricky/awkward parts of the build, in which things didn't go together very smoothly, and the instructions were not always entirely clear about the exact placement of pieces. Regardless, I found the build very enoyable, and I found myself taking frequent pauses to admire the build and make it last longer.
The process of coupling and uncoupling the stages is not always a smooth one. Mutiple times when attempting to seperate stages I and II, stage III has fallen off and broken apart. I've also had random pieces come off that aren't supposed to. The black fez piece on the bottom of the lunar module never stays attached. These problems unfortunately limit the play value of what is otherwise a perfect set. The completed model has incredible visual impact and looks great on display.

Thanks for your review. It sounds like you might be taking the stages apart out of order! You'll want to remove them in the exact order shown in the last few pages of your building instructions - that way the top won't come off.

This ranks up there as being one of the all time great Lego sets and a spectacular tribute to NASA and Apollo.
The detail is so good. Many thanks for putting this set into production. I had hoped for this for many years.

Oh my goodness!

Well, where do I start? Firstly, I was excited about this product the minute it was announce. I mean what's not to love? Lego and space combined!
Secondly, I would say go into your nearest store and buy this, the box isn't as big as I first thought.
Thirdly, the building of this is so much easier than I thought. You can't tell there are nearly 2000 pieces at all. Just feels like an average build but the end product is just the best.
This is by far the best set I've ever purchased...EVER.

Perfect!

The model is absolutely stunning. The attention to detail in the surface markings and engines is phenomenal, and the methods used to achieve a smooth circular cross section are a tour de force that must be seen to be believed. This set is a huge bargain at full retail price. Though a meter-long Lego rocket will never be swooshable, the stage separations and Apollo spacecraft details make the set amazingly playable, all things considered. My only complaint is that there should be more than three little stands to support it on display. With just three, I fear the model will begin to sag before long.
