My New Favorite Set

Simply, this is my favorite Lego set. The build was incredible, there were techniques used that I would never have thought of, the printed parts are excellent, and the most impressive feature of this set is its scale. It really is a meter tall. The Saturn V has quite a presence in my Lego collection. I smile every time I look at it.

One of the best sets ever created

This is definitely one of the greatest sets ever created. The amount of details is amazing. You can display it multiple ways which makes it interesting. I love how the figures are exactly to scale of the rocket. There is some repetition but, in this set, it's okay.
The moon landing ship and the ocean landing ship are both great additions to the set and make it amazingly complete.
Definitely the best IDEAS set made so far.

Greatly anticpated set

I first found the Saturn V Ideas project and followed it closely. Once the supporters reached 10,000 I was very excited and eagerly waited for over a year to see the announcement of the June 1 release date. I spent the year modelling the Ideas Saturn V with LDD so I was ready to build the real thing. Building Saturn V set was very enjoyable and satisfying to see the various stages come together. I was not surprised that there were differences between the original Ideas design and the final product. The Lego designers did a terrific job converting the Ideas design into a viable product and the delivery price is very reasonable, a lot of value for the money. Now that I have a completed Saturn V, I will use my LDD design of the Launch tower and crawler to build a complete launch complex. (I've modeled the VAB and interior assembly platforms.)

Stunning in every way

I waited very impatiently for this ever since it was announced. I was up at midnight the release date to order right away, they shipped it that very morning, I had it the next day.
It was worth my impatience.
This kit is just amazing. The ingenuity of some of the design elements for going to smaller stages was just beautiful in its simplicity. I love the stark black/white colors, it represents beautifully the actual rocket.
No stickers! THANK YOU LEGO!!!
The details are nicely done. My only complaint is the vent pieces not sitting flush with the body of the rest of the rocket. If you're looking closely that detracts from the end result. But if you're not looking that close at it, there's nothing else to complain about.
I haven't decided if I like it displayed best horizontally, assembled as the full rocket on the stands, or vertically. The large size is well represented either way.
The connections for the stages are strong enough that you can use one hand and hold this horizontally and it stays together, but not so strong that snapping them apart intentionally is too difficult. Very well designed.
I love the inclusion of the non standard Lego figurines as well, nice that they give a good sense of scale, something usually absent with any Lego model since things are almost never to scale with the mini figs.
I normally buy these building kits for my son, and it's a father/son thing we usually do, though some he likes to do on his own. THIS one I purchased for *ME* though. He helped me build it as usual, but this one was Daddy's toy.
If you like space at all, or Nasa, and you're a fan of Lego kits, there is no excuse whatsoever not to have this. I just found the new centerpiece of our Lego collection here.

The NASA Apollo Saturn V
on June 11, 2017

Just shy of 3 hours to build. Rocket Boys and Retro Space Guys were quickly drawn to it. Helmets off to the LEGO Ideas Creators and the LEGO Designers for a superbly engineered and designed set. The attention to detail and intricate way the stages of the Rocket are built makes you want to dismantle it in order to build it over and over, yet it is too beautiful to pull apart. My three helpers (6yo, 4yo and 3yo) were mesmerized as it steadily grew to 1m tall - taller than the two youngest I might add. The booklet includes some introductory pages (as do all LEGO Ideas sets) on the history of the Apollo Saturn V which were well put together and certainly value added to the set. A thoroughly enjoyable build that I can't recommend highly enough. The value for money is ridiculous. It is little wonder they sold out within hours of becoming available.

Take your time..

Build it slowly and enjoy the process. What a set! It's been said in all the other reviews. Exceptional value for money when so often it's the other way. It's a real treat to build. Lots of new techniques. The final rocket is suprisingly sturdy you can pick it up single handedly. It's huge too. I'm scratching my head where to store it. It looks as impressive lying on the stands as it does standing up.
I actually want to take it apart and build it again I enjoyed it so much. Pure therapy for an AFOL. There is a bit of 2x and 4x but it's not tedious. I often wondered why I was building in such away until the final move that twists 2 pieces to lock everything into place. Some very clever techniques to strengthen this without filling the interior with Technic pins.
Don't rush and spend silly money because greedy sellers have emptied the shelves to turn over a quick buck. Part of the wonder of this set is the sheer value for money. I'm sure it will be around for a while and on lots of Christmas wishlists. Both Kids and Adults alike.

Brilliant rendition of the best rocket ever

I've been waiting for this set my entire life - which began even before the Saturn V brought men to the moon and back. And this set did not disappoint. The cost is extremely reasonable given the size and complexity of the set - so I bought two. Each bag is numbered with straightforward directions to build each section. Fully half the effort goes into the first stage. The first two stages are designed with an inner cylinder support system that makes the finished set exceptionally strong, and the connections between stages are strong enough to hold the entire stack together, but are easy enough to separate. This is a very satisfying build, and the end result is stunning. The details at this scale really help bring it alive. Unlike most other LEGO sets, the rocket itself doesn't have exposed studs, hiding its "LEGO DNA", but the micro-scale dioramas of Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) and Command Module (CM) - complete with little award figure astronauts - make up for that. This is a must for any space enthusiast, and out of the hundreds of LEGO sets I've purchased over several decades, this may very well be the absolute best.
