Awesome Build! Great Family Project

My wife and I love Lego and decided that for our anniversary we'd buy and build this set with our three sons. It was a great project for the entire family. We had a blast. It is probably the best Lego set I've ever built we were satisfied. It's even cool that the Eagle lander fits in the top under the command module! How crazy is that. Great work everyone!

That's one small step for man...

What a fantastic Lego set! I have collected Lego since I was 12 years old. I have also been a huge space nerd for the same amount of time. As a young girl, rather than posters of boy bands I hung badly photocopied pictures of the Apollo astronauts on my walls. Now at 28 years old, I haven't much grown out of either obsession.
From the moment I saw this set, I knew I had to have it. Not only does it look amazing, but it was super fun to build. Just watching it come together made me happy. One of my absolute favorites, probably topped only by my original Millennium Falcon (7190)! I also love the nod to 1,969 pieces. Awesome. :)

Need more space builds

I went to the store to find a fun build to do with my kids. I first was looking for a Star Wars theme build, but then glanced over to see a Saturn V rocket. I was so excited, I didn't even look at the price tag. I wish there were more of these out there. I would love to make a space shuttle or an international space station. The Saturn V rocket took me a couple of days to build, because I had to do it when my kids were taking naps. I love how it turned out. Amazing build, and its larger than I thought it would be. VERY HAPPY WITH IT!!!

Best set ever

Ever since watching the launch of this rocket in 1969 I have been a fan. Lego have recreated the rocket in detail and size that I never thought possible. As a display item this set is awesome, as an inspirational teaching piece it is large enough to amaze as sections come apart to reveal the intimate workings of the rocket. All school science departments should have this set. If you love space and scientific engineering then please buy this set.

Needs Launchpad

Great example of the Saturn V rocket. Seams like a lot of unneeded steps until it's completed and you see the results (stages come apart). Really tall, takes up less space when standing vertical which is the proper way to display the rocket. It greatly needs a launchpad to go with it.

This was my first lego set since I was a child that I couldn't wait to build, I limited myself to a bag a night, but after a while I couldn't contain my excitement and went for it. Certain bits are challenging and you have to look very closely at the instructions. I'm debating about taking it apart and doing it again - you know for fun :)

"Straight to the Moon"

tl;dr: This set is amazing.
This set is the current pinnacle of the marriage of concept, design, and execution. (It must be an interesting marriage!)
The Saturn V is such an iconic part of NASA's history and this set does that history justice. Whether you know it from the Moon missions, from movies like Apollo 13, or even from the classic MTV opening. From the excellent manual including historic information and photos, a timeline of the mission, and information about the fan creators and Lego designers that brought the set (if temporarily) to the Lego store shelves to the minute details, this set is a thrill to behold.
The design is a lesson in the flexibility and versatility of Lego as a construction system. Existing pieces used in innovative ways to help achieve the curves of the body, a well-developed core to support the skin where every piece has a purpose and the use of multiple colors helps to ease the intricate build, and the multiple ways to play with, display, and teach with the finished model.
One of the challenges that Lego faces with intricate models--I am looking at you, Millennium Falcons--is the scale. From my understanding, at 1 meter tall, this model is roughly 1:110 scale, and the nano figures provided fit into that scale. This scale allows for some broad brushstrokes of details while also allowing minute details in the F1 engines. Almost any AFOL will appreciate that there are no stickers in this set. Everything is printed and there are some really nice prints: the LM hatch, the American Flag on a clear 2 x 1, the USA markings on the rocket.
In terms of usability, the model is solid with the only weak points I (and other builders) have found being the LM attachment inside the cowling which is a single stud and the fins which are a little finicky. The stages come apart easily yet the model also feels solid overall. It is possible to teach a timeline of the Apollo 11 mission with this model, from launch, to separation of stages, to docking the CSM and the LM, to the moon landing/launch, then returning to the CSM, then splashing down. Alas, I don't know if there are any Lego parachutes, though that might be one of the few additions that I would have liked to see. There are wee dioramas for the moon landing with the aforementioned flag and for the splashdown including the addition of flotation devices.
What are the flaws? Some of the building is finicky and some of the building is repetitive. Even with the variation in color, sometimes it can be a challenge to get the proper alignment of some elements. Because the pieces still attach, it may be several steps into the future that you realize that you are one stud off. When you correct the error, you are likely to say, "Oh, so that's why that was hard to connect" as the proper placement snaps into place. Some additional detail illustrations may have helped. In terms of repetition, there are a number of elements that are made 4x or 2x and if you are a parallel building like me, it makes for a relatively quick build. I took four hours, though that was with stops for photos and the occasional adult beverage. For AFOLs, there are a number of intricate interconnections involving small pieces that may tax your eyesight and challenge your manual dexterity. That being said, once built, the set is solid and I have no plans to take it apart and to integrate the pieces with my collection at large. It will likely live most of the time on the three stand pieces they provide and eventually pass on to my wee Lego building 5 year old twins.
In summary, an amazing set, intricate details, great display, play, and teaching value that is an interesting, if at times finicky and repetitive build.

Best Lego Ideas set
on June 12, 2017

When I saw this on Lego Ideas I knew I had to support it. When it was announced it was going to be made I eagerly kept searching for updates on the release.
The Ideas submission was awesome but what Lego has produced kept the spirit of the submission and added so much more! I believe this is my favorite set I have ever owned. This set is perfect for kids all the way to adults. Kids get the play value (and learn about how we got to the moon) and adults get a very professional looking model to display.
At 3 ft tall this really stands out. The sheer size can't be conveyed until you build it. With each stage expertly incorporated it makes a great education tool as well.
The set is well worth the price, especially if it will help inspire kids to go into S.T.E.M. I would encourage anyone who is thinking about purchasing it to stop thinking and just go ahead and buy it. You will NOT be disappointed.
