Fun and Interesting Build, but why no Pilots?
on September 7, 2018

This was a really fun build that was slightly challenging. Despite the number of legs and similar things to build, it was surprisingly NOT tedious. The sheer amount of colorful bricks was amazing and it used a lot of build techniques I've never seen. I wish there was some slightly better articulation, and of course it would have been great if the lions were big enough for mini figures, but I understand how challenging it must have been to design this as it is. So, my only real complaint is, Why No Pilot Figures? I know the lions are not mini fig scale. Still, it would have been nice to have the pilot figures.

Great kit. Size is truly awesome. Easy build. Lions look great even when not assembled as voltron. WHY however were no mini figures included????

Just got this build this weekend and it is awesome. Taking my time building the indavidual lions and enjoying every minute of it. It is truly a great build and representation of Voltron. Great job Lego.

Nostalgic Fun

I initially purchased this for a friend but they let me buy the second set. I got right into the set. As a kid, I had the original Voltron toys where I could combine the 5 cats to form Voltron. I was really excited that I had the opportunity to build the cats myself and then combine them into Voltron.
I'm used to building smaller sets and Lego Mindstorms EV3 stuff so this was a different challenge. This was probably the longest Lego project I've worked on. Luckily, another friend was living vicariously through me and I updated them with the progress of each cat through fully building Voltron.
I did have some stability issues with Voltron's wings staying on when combining the cats. I ended up taking them off and then putting them back on once all the cats were in place and Voltron was standing. Other than that it was a great build and I had a lot of fun with the set.
If I could I'd give this a 4.7 out of 5.

BEST SET EVER!

Ok, maybe not ever but, as a kid growing up in the 80's this set brought all sorts of great memories. Directions were clear, the build was fairly easy and the kids (and by kids I mean me) have had a lot of fun playing with it. The only downside, I think I need to buy a second set so I can have both Voltron and the Lions.

The paws are strange
on December 28, 2018

This is a great build for a group/family as the lions are supposed to be autonomous. Expect bonding to occur as you all struggle to get the legs just right when forming Voltron and random pieces pop off because someone held it wrong. The black lion is the most intricate followed by the yellow/blue and finally the red/green lions. Make sure you hear the clicks when turning the blue & yellow lions into the feet or Voltron won’t be sturdy. The paws on the red & green lions look like a second thought. Since they get tucked in to form Voltron, they still work as spiky shoulder pads. If you really want to challenge yourself, go out of the suggested order of the books. ***If you build this for display and have little imaginative ninjas running around, good luck. Our Voltron is a master of splits and has upgraded to a “crab” shield.

Spectacular!

Like others in my age bracket, I am a product of the 80s, and absolutely loved Voltron. This is actually BETTER than the toy of years ago. The trueness in likeness of each of the lions and Voltron itself to the old toy is absolutely incredible - I can't believe they were able to actually achieve this with Lego bricks. Remarkably sturdy upon full assembly. No, it's not perfection - the legs are immobile, among other things, but this set is a really remarkable design achievement. Visually it is stunning, and the individual lions are great on their own. A must buy!

Awesome Build

I had a lot of fun with this. Not overly complicated but highly detailed finished product. Very fun and very cool. Only improvements i could see is working out how to give him functional hips and knees. Voltron was leaning a little towards the back when assembled, I had to use the arms to counter balance his weight. I removed one of the 2x2 plates from under the toe on each foot to correct his stance some.
