Voltron was such a fun build, would recommend to anyone. It took 7 hours with breaks. Very well thought of and some crazy pieces I had never seen exciting build. Its super sturdy don’t feel like it would break in your hand.
Fantastic!

Fun build, looks great, a little delicate

I loved Voltron as a young child. I love the Netflix reboot as well. When I saw this be approved, I knew I had to have it when released. I was out of town when it arrived, but I picked it up the next day and started building at night. I started at 9 pm and went to bed at 2 am with only the black lion left to build.
I woke up the next morning and finished the black lion and started turning him into Voltron. I’d say overall it was an easy build as long as you pay close attention to the instructions. My only other previous build is the Saturn V rocket, which was harder to come by to purchase. I love the way it looks. It has some heft to it and I chose to put the stickers on it.
However I question its playability/durability. While solid when assembled or as separate lions, when manipulating the legs of the lions, the feet tend to snap off. The head of the black lion also comes off rather easily. I feel like I have to handle it delicately. When I form Voltron, a piece somewhere will usually snap off at an articulating joint. Specifically, the gray part that has those tiny plastic teeth on them. I pop them back in with no issue. Just seems a bit fragile there.
Overall, a fun and easy build and the final product looks great. I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone. Just be mindful when handling the legs or feet of the lions. While not a delicate flower, it may not like rough handling.

Dwarfs all other mechs
on October 20, 2018

This set is so huge, even Cole's Quake mech became a dwarf.
Why 4 stars? No minifigures, the partsforming, and limited articulation.
The legs may fall off if not lifted properly.
I hope they design a mech of this size that's fully poseable.
Kudos to the designer of this great set!

Good Voltron...but
on August 8, 2018

Overall, I really like my Voltron. The build was fun to put together and overall it looks really good. However, Voltron and the lions themselves have very limited articulation which really limits his poseability. There is no hip movement and no knee bend. I also don't like that you have to cheat and remove parts of the black lion and switch them around to go from lion mode to the torso. I truly believe that with a bit more engineering and imagination, Lego could have put in more articulation which would have made disassembly and reassembly of the black lion unnecessary. I feel that for the price Lego is charging for this model, they could have put a bit more effort into the design. Overall I am happy with the model, but it could have been much better with a bit more effort. I am going to try and modify it myself to improve its playability.

So much potential...

I wanted to like this set better than I do. I'm probably seeing more issues as I'm an avid Voltron fan, and this set just doesn't quite capture Voltron magic.
The build starts out strong with the Yellow and Blue lions, and they're the strongest of the batch. Each is a solid build, and produces an independently playable toy... although the legs are a bit flimsy and prone to breaking off.
The Red and Green lions are also very good... although they're limited in detail by the scale, and range of motion in the joints is minimal. Decent standalone toys, but not great.
Unfortunately, the set really falls apart with the Black lion. It's solid, and large, and holds together well... but it's really just Voltron's body, and not really a standalone toy. They legs have very limited mobility, and the head and neck also lack range of motion due to the need to conceal Voltron's head inside. But the biggest issue is with the front legs, and the attachment points for the Red and Green lion... on each side. a large gear mechanism just hangs off the side, unconcealed. Hugely disappointing.
The combined Voltron is pretty good though, and it's clear that compromises were made on the Black lion to make Voltron, as a whole, a better combined robot. The arm mechanisms are solid and can maintain (limited) poses. Voltron holds together well (although legs of the individual lions pop off way too easy). The shield is *excellent* and better implemented that I could have imagined. The blazing sword is a disappointment through, as it's detailed only on one side.. although the detail that's there is nice. Lastly, Voltron as a whole generally has so much more "chrome" than this set, and the gray just isn't a good replacement.
I'm glad Lego made a Voltron, but it didn't quite meet expectations. And due to the limitations, it will sit on a shelf, rather than allowing my son to play with it.

So close to perfect.

This is a great set - there were just a few things Lego could have done to take it from "great" to "perfect."
First of all, the lack of figures. I didn't expect the lions to have working cockpits, but including mini-figures (or even nano-figures!) as a display option seems so obvious to me!
The build itself is great, although the symmetrical nature of the build means there is a lot of repetition when building the legs and arms. There are some minor differences, but for the most part, both legs are the same at the core, and both arms are the same.
A lot of people complain about the "partsforming" aspect, that is, they complain that you have to do some disassembly to transform to Voltron. I am actually OK with that, as I can understand why it makes the build stronger and look better in both lion and robot forms.
What I DON'T like is the exposed gears on the shoulder of the when the Black Lion is in Lion mode. Since you are already taking it apart, I feel there could have been something to hide that better.
Overall, I am very pleased with this set. It makes a very eye-catching display model!
