It appears that not all the heating element wires are working and installed incorrectly. The metal stainless steel shell is very flimsy and most likely will get dented over time through handling, Disappointing since I own other Cuisinart products.

Over all toaster works well, the only issue is the temperature knob. It does not lock on any setting & will spin freely when accidently or barely touched causing item to burn or under toast. User must be aware of this issue or items will have to be toasted again. I would not recommend buying this toaster.

Our last Cuisinart toaster lasted 16 years so when it stopped working we wanted another Cuisinart toaster. The new one is very light, toasts bread very quickly and we like that the feature buttons are above the dial so its easier to see. Compared to the old toaster though because its lighter it doesn't feel as sturdy and its also a bit smaller but so far it's working great. We tried to find an extra long 2 slot toaster where each slice had its own control and being extra long you could toast 2 regular slices of bread or one long slice in each slot but that option doesnt currently exist so we settled for a 4 slice toaster since we do need the ability to toast for multiple people but it will not fit wide or long slices of bread. You will want to use standard size loaves for best results.
