Our Second GE microwave

This is our second GE microwave. The last one lasted 18 years. We decided to replace it only because the door was getting hard to open. The microwave was working perfect.

Malfunction with microwave door

Whenever I shut the door to the microwave it automatically turns on and starts running. I have tried unplugging and plugging back in but the problem still remains. I would like to get some feedback on what I should do. I would rate this microwave 5 stars if I could get it back to normal operating status.

Hello EC16 - Thanks for your choosing GE and sharing your concern. If the microwave starts as soon as the door is closed, the microwave isn't really starting; the fan is coming on in anticipation of the unit starting. Try shutting the door firmly three times to avoid the fan sound in future use.

This is as close in size and style to our previous microwave as we could find. It does have less stainless and more black than we would like, but it looks nice. It is surprisingly quite in operation. My only real complaint is that the plug is straight and not right-angle, which is a pretty big oversight for a counter-top microwave that is almost always going to be pushed up against a wall in front of the outlet where it is plugged in.
