Imprecise Heat Mixing Bowl

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this and have had to return the item twice. It does not heat to a precise temperature, the first one cooked the dough that was proving. The second one reached 7 degrees higher than the selected temperature. Very disappointing product. No customer service available in UK for this item.

After using it for about 7-8 times, the smell continue to be almos unbearable. It does the work, especially when you need to achieve textures that take a lot of work, like aligot for example. However, the smell even gives us headaches. Spreads around the entire house like if it was plastic burning. It's awful.

During the holidays I temper a lot of chocolate. I was impressed with this feature and was able to temper two pounds at a time. Both milk and dark chocolate tempered beautifully.I have not used this for anything else, but I am looking forward to making yogurt next.
This thing is really fun to use. The first thing I made was some vanilla almond bark. I made the mistake of not chopping the white chocolate small enough, so it did take a while to melt completely. But once it did, it was very smooth and creamy, exactly the right texture you want for bark. I added in more white chocolate to temper (this time I chopped it up small) and the bark came out delicious and with that perfect snap. It's lasted more than a week now with no discoloration, which you usually get with untempered or incorrectly tempered chocolate. I'll be snacking on it a few more weeks for sure.
I also made a bread dough and let it rise in the Precise Heat bowl. I absolutely love that this can be used as a standalone device, if you're making something that doesn't need mixing. The dough doubled in size like it was supposed to, and was baked into a delicious bread. I'm going to take credit for that one.
Pros: can heat to certain temperature, can be used with mixer or as a standalone
I have wanted this since day one of availability and just got it with my beautiful blue Design Series tilt head mixer. Absolutely spectacular for proofing bread dough. Worth the wait!
KitchenAid's Precise Heat Mixing Bowl is a great addition to the stand mixer. It allows precise control of temperature for a variety of applications, such as rising and kneading doughs of all kinds, yogurt making, fondues, and more. Temperature is accurate, but takes quite a long time before it is reached. The unit's user manual does not mention how to switch the temperature scale from Fahrenheit to Celsius. I called the KitchenAid's support about this, but was never called back with an answer. However, I easily figured it out since there are only 3 buttons. I would purchase this unit again, as it is a great complement to the stand mixer, and it can also be used standalone.
Not sure it is usual, but the unit puts off an odor that smell like some industrial agent is burning; tis occurs when first used and later when thoroughly cleaned and tested. Also, there is lots of information about tempering chocolate, but non on cooking rice or simple vegetables. Cannot find this information when searching manuals. Thirdly, the buttons on control panel are confusing

We actually bought this as a gift for our anniversary. We have not used it yet but we did look at the cookbook and turned it on to see how it worked.
I would recommend this to a friend!
