Great little printer

If you are looking for a reliable reasonably priced printer, this is a great one. This is the first Brother printer I’ve owned and I am happy I switched from HP. Its the least expensive printer I’ve had and it’s works just as well as a printer three times the price. The cartridges are not as expensive as others I have used. I gave it four stars because the quality of the printing isn’t as crisp as I expected.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I previously owned all epson printers, so I had a long learning curve ahead. But Epson went to tank ink and I do not print continuously and was afraid of the ink drying out. Also the Epson products did not have great reviews anymore. So I gave Brother printers a try. The MFC-J895MD has not disappointed me. I use the printer for general printing but mainly to print my photos. I like the individual cartridges and they perform well. They are not as expensive as the Epsons, another plus.

A Great Choice For Home Office Use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. SETUP:Completing the initial setup was easy, as both the "Quick Start Guide" and prompts on the LCD touchscreen screen of the printer were easy to follow. This printer connected to Wifi with no issues. The ink cartridges it came with were easy to install. APPEARANCE: This printer looks nice and sleek. I appreciate that it is black instead of white or gray/tan like many other printers on the market. The top paper feeder folds away to give it a more compact appearance. The LCD touchscreen is large, bright, and flips out at an angle for easy viewing while you are standing and looking down on the printer. PROS: Has a small footprint for a machine with print/fax/copy/scan capabilities, which works well in my tiny workspace. My favorite thing about this printer is that is is compatible with my PC, but also uses AirPrint, so I can print quickly and easily from any of my devices. Paper moves easily through the machine without jamming. It can do dual-sided prints. CONS: The paper tray in the bottom is flimsy plastic and it is awkward to refill (you have to take the whole tray out to load more paper). Print quality is a bit lower than expected, so I would not use it for important professional documents, though it is fine for everyday tasks. This printer prints pages slower than other printers I have used.Overall, I would recommend this printer, especially for a small home office or small business. It gives you all the functionality of much and more expensive printers and at a low price point.

A good staple for home

This printer is a solid workhorse for your basic home needs. Set-up: I found general set-up to be really easy (~5 minutes total), particularly with our wifi router. Printing from my phone was a breeze once set up - particularly in comparison to our older printer. Scanning took a little more work in navigating set up with out a CD drive on our home laptop, but manageable with the online instructions. The easier default is to just use your email address. But overall the touchscreen on the printer works well and is very intuitive. Quality: As for print quality, colors are nice and accurate in comparison to digital files. Crispness isn`t quite as nice as our prior printer, but not a huge issue considering it`s an inkjet printer.Speed: Wifi printing is incredibly simple - and quick! I am impressed with the on-demand wake up of the printer when using wireless printing. Our old one had quite a lag and sometimes required a manual wake up - certainly not the case with this one.

very functional printer

Very nice Multi-function printer. Prints and scans very well. Two issues to bring up: starter ink provided was very minimal, had to buy ink within the first week. The printer does not seem to have a setup to print directly on business envelopes

Clunking Noise

Paper feed makes a clunking noise. It sounds like it is going to feed improperly.
Tried to print 2 sided business cards. Paper jammed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Quiet fast printing!

This was easy to set up. Everything works as advertised. Has a high quantity paper tray. Ink cartridges last a lot longer than my last printer. Great considering the price.

Gobbles up the ink

This printer is just ok. It's noisy, hard to load paper into and send to run out of ink quickly. Prints good pictures but again, drains up the ink to come.

Hi Lynn, We understand the printer is noisy and the paper is hard to load. The MFC-J895DW has quiet mode setting to reduce the printing noise. This mode is located in your setting menu, scroll to Quiet noise, turn off/on and press Home key. When loading the paper in the manual feed slot, only load one sheet of paper at a time with the printing surface face up.
