Whirlpool: Master of "Improvements"?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this to replace a 20 year old Whirlpool microwave that couldn't be repaired anymore. Even though this is exactly the same size as the old one, I was unhappy that I could not use the same back plate and the unit sets almost 3/4 inch away from the back wall. The old one was flush. The location of the unit is at the end of a row of overhead cabinets, so that gap is quite visible. Now I have to come up with some trim to cover it up. I am also unhappy that this unit has only one light on the bottom which does more to illuminate the backsplash behind the range top below than the range top itself. The old one had two lights, one on either side, which did an excellent job. I am also unhappy that this unit does not have the "one press for time and start" feature the old one had, where if you just press the "1" button, it would start a 1 minute cycle. Press "2" for 2 minutes, etc. Now you have to press four buttons to get the same result. Not so great when, with one eye open, you are trying to heat up your fist cup of coffee in the morning! How is this an improvement over what used to work just fine? Why was it necessary to change it? Other than this, the unit seems to work well. Hope it lasts as long as the old one!

Great microwave

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works great and looks great. There is plenty of room to cook larger items inside. It replaced another Whirpool microwave so the installation only took a few minutes. There was no need to drill new holes in my cabinetry. Only change I would make is the tone it makes when your cooking is done.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Short Lifespan

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the second time we purchased this microwave. The only reason we bought it the second time was because I was certain it would fit above our stove. The first one died in 3 years and would have cost almost as much to fix as to replace. I doubt this one will last a long time either, but this time I opted for a warranty from the store from where we made the purchase. When it works, it cooks fine. I thought about giving it 1 star because she I tried to submit this, they sent me an email to confirm, but their link wouldn't work. When I contacted them for help as directed, I was told they couldn't help. I now have another request from them to review it. We will see if they post this one or hide it as well.
